Stanbrook Abbey Hotel, Worcester

Reception was polite but formal. The room was large with a nice view to the east over woodland. The bathroom was large nut lacked tissues. The room had a safe but no refrigerator. The abbey is magnificent and well maintained. We explored the chapel and bell tower. We ate in the bar and the meal was satisfactory. Breakfast was included in the room rate and was superb.

A significant service charge was added to our evening meal. It wasn’t VAT, simply an additional amount (around 14%) added to the meal cost. I found this deceitful. Be transparent and increase the prices in the menu. Don’t hide it in the final bill. Btw, I’m from Australia not Hongkong.

A truly stunning building. wonderful mix of the old and the new. Room was lovely and shower/bathroom facilities excellent. Breakfast was very good.

Breakfast was very good - apart from the hot drinks - tea and coffee - smallest of cups - does not ever taste good or hot when provided from roving flasks where it has been stewing! It would be so simple to provide a pot or caftiere for diners for the table with an option for refills. PLEASE consider a spa facility - it would perhaps not fit with the ambience of the hotel but walking around the grounds there are obvious options for consideration! Pousadas in Portugal (ex monastaries have cracked it!)

Interesting building. Very friendly staff. Great location. Lots of parking space . Good food and service at breakfast.

Standard rooms are small. Double bed is small . Room decor is dark and gloomy . Room was showing signs of wear and tear and there were cobwebs in the bathroom. My wife and I both felt totally underwhelmed when we walked in. We requested a room change but even the best alternative room available on the 1st floor wasn't much better. It was a humid evening and the room fan was adequate but very noisy so we had to switch it off to get any sleep. The windows only opened with a small gap for ventilation. Even then , the blind had to be pulled down as the room could otherwise be viewed through the window from another room nearby. Ok for one night only and definately not good value for money.
