The views from the accommodation on the main floor, the terrace on the top floor and our room were outstanding. However, be aware that the view comes at a cost no reflected in the price. What I mean by that is the following. As others have noted, it takes about a 5-10min walk from where a taxi/Uber can drop you off to walk to the accommodation. The walk is up and down with steep parts. When it rains the steepness can be challenging on the way down in particular. Also the narrow streets are littered with animal feces, which are easy to see during the day, smell a lot because of the heat, and are very difficult to see when in the dark. The other thing to keep in mind is that, while Santa Teresa is a lovely area to stay in if you are not in Rio for the first time and are wanting to explore all the main attractions, it is very difficult to get an Uber from Santa Teresa to other destinations in the city. Easiest is taxi, which is comparable to Uber rates. Also the same challenge for when you try to return to the accommodation. Last, but not least on more than one occasion there was animal feces in the hallway right outside of our door. Overall this is a budget accommodation offering great views, but I wouldn't recommend it for your first time in Rio and if only staying for a few days. But if you are in Rio and only looking to experience the flavela and the Santa Teresa area than give it a shot.

This is an unusual setting for a pousada being within a relatively small favela. The room was large and attractive with a private balcony commanding a stunning view over Rio. Gabriel, the host, was very helpful. He speaks good English and is a good communicator.
The favela has a restaurant open at lunchtime but not for dinner, however you can cook in the pousada if you bring your own ingredients.

The location is something else. The favela felt safer than anywhere else in Rio. The people who live there were so friendly and welcoming. The views from the accommodation were breathtaking and the breakfast was very good. There was plenty of communal space and the cats were a bonus.
The kitchen needed some clean pans and was generally a bit grubby.

Only that I kept getting lost in the favela

Only the morning view is good — everything else is horrible. We got BEDBUGS!
Location, amenities, room. THE BEDS HAVE BEDBUGS. Our legs were completely covered in bites. Despite paying extra for a room with a view, the view was completely blocked by neglected tree branches — you can only see the view from the kitchen, not the room. Since the area -Santa teresa- is unsafe, making it extremely difficult to get an Uber or 99. Even when you do, you still have to walk about 10 minutes up and down steep hills through the favela to reach the place. I wish the location had been explained more clearly — it’s very hard to find and feels extremely unsafe. Public transport is almost non-existent, only 2 buses, 006 and 007 going to the centro at limited times. It’s far from everything. I spent more money on Ubers than anything else during my trip. The house smells like urine because the cat pees everywhere and it’s never cleaned. Apart from the Sugarloaf view from the kitchen, there’s absolutely no upside — in fact, there are only downsides. You could stay one night just for the view, but don’t forget about the BEDBUGS. We ended up being humiliated with our own money while looking for an experience. I absolutely do not recommend it. I had to go to pharmacies because the bug bites on my legs got infected. As someone who has traveled to 26 countries and stayed in all kinds of places, this is the first time I’ve felt truly disgusted. A total disgrace.

Stayed for 2 nights ; The view on the favella,
It’s safe.
The breakfast was correct and basic.
The owner keeps following you wherever you go(in the kitchen, the terrace) as a couple we didn’t feel comfortable staying in the common area of this Pousada.
The location is not easy accessible by public transportation, you need a taxi which can be tricky also to get.

More of a one-of-a-kind experience than a mere stay at a pousada: amazing views of Rio and the Sugar Loaf and a chance to "live" in a favela for a few days. Not for the timid and entitled tourist, but a gem for the traveller.
A bit tricky to navigate there and back to Central!

I had an amazing time at this hostel for the past week, and am now extending the stay for two more weeks! Néia and her family are so sweet, and the place itself is beautiful, with an incredible view of the city and murals all over the walls. The bed is comfortable and the breakfast yummy. There's a place to wash and dry your clothes on the balcony, and it is nice to get in touch with basic skills like hand-washing clothes. I slept like a baby here and always had very interesting and complex dreams. Honestly, everything about the hostel is amazing! I can't recommend it enough.

It's a nice place to stay.

Great location with great view. Good bugdet price. Nice hosts. Breakfast with fruits.
You need to understand that this accommodation is a bit far away. At times there will be airplanes crossing very close above the accommodation (more of an issue for double-rooms as shared rooms are located in basement).

Wonderful location with a great view, breakfast was ok,
My room was smelly, staff was ok but I think the place is highly overrated, maybe it was great in former times

The view from our room was incredible and having a hammock to view it from was lovely. The shower was powerful and the best one we've had during our three week trip in Brazil so far!
I would say that it could do with some more crockery (bowls, cooking utensils) for the kitchen and there are also a lot of flies in the kitchen area. The only other thing is that the mattress sheet kept coming off as it was too small and this showed how dirty the mattress was unfortunately which was a little off putting!

Probably the biggest perk of this hostel is the amazing view. The staff were super-friendly and helpful.
Some of the areas weren't very clean, but it seemed to me that I was the only guest at the moment so that was ok. Later, more guests started showing up, and the place became cleaner.

The view and the staff there as it like a family. The place has some nice painted walls. The staff there will help you out if you ask for the help, also Gabriel is learning the English which does help sometimes. We had a lovely time there. Also if you do stay here even though there is no evening meals there, the place Resturante ABCD up the pathway does really nice food.

Amazing view that you can't get in other hostels! The staff was extremely cute and helpful and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. Good breakfast.
It was a little difficult to get an uber at some point. Walking to the entrance of the favela at night didn't seem like a good option for me either.

Amazing and lovely hosts. They bought me Nescau for breakfast when noticed I don't drink coffee. lovely people to talk to and very safe place with undisturbed view of the Sugar loaf.

Highly recommend this place. Unique and safe way to experience life in a favela. Very chilled vibes and stunning terrace. Excellent, tropical breakfast
If you are looking for nightlife there isn't much nearby: long walks up hills!

Good breakfast, excellent view of the city, good size room, felt safe in the favela, it is more comfortable than in the city, fresher air less pollution
Update the web site, the hotel is more for back packers, being older people, the trek between the street to the hotel with suitcases is kind of an experience and in the neighborhood there is a local where they have events and one night they had loud live music

One of the best views of Rio. Having heard all the stories about Rio, as a white Irish born gringo, at first I did feel a bit tense about walking through the favela alone after sundown with all my luggage. But upon arriving there, a resident of the favela guided me to the hostel and even offered to help carry my luggage. People were very welcoming and so were the owners Néia, and her son Gabriel. Loved the people I met there too. I'd definitely recommend to set your alarm to ~05:00am to witness one the most magical sunrises you'll ever see. Bonus points were the night shop and favela restaurant which were just a short walk away

The place is located in a favela, which is a very authentic experience. It's safe, of course. You have to walk a bit, but the reward will be an amazing view of Rio de Janeiro (You'll love it!). The place is clean, the people who work there are nice and helpful, so I can't complain at all. I would definitely stay again.
