The most amazing place to stay in Varenna

My wife and I stayed in Varenna for 4 nights. Paolo and Fabio were fantastic hosts. We had an early issue getting into the apartment (our issue, not theirs) and they were so helpful in getting it sorted. The location of the apartment is amazing. It is close to the train station and the ferry terminal and it has the most brilliant views. The apartment itself is spacious and comes with all the amenities you could reasonably expect. We could not have enjoyed the place more than we did.

A piece of paradise with happy memories

The location and views

The lack of convenient power points … I appreciate it’s an old property but having to plug the kettle in via an extension lead stretching across the floor wasn’t ideal. Some of our adaptor plugs wouldn’t got into some of the power sockets so it was a case of search and find a socket that it fitted…due to rain the balcony outside the living room was flooded and didn’t appease once the rain stopped… I think the drain was blocked so we couldn’t access the balcony via the living room…this is the third time we have visited casa Mary… twice at the other apartment and for the first time at this one… however due to change in ownership ( I presume) the price of a weeks stay for the same time next year will double in price… due to this unfortunately we won’t be returning…however if you are willing to pay the price , Varenna is a wonderful place to visit… also as a side note the amount of visitors to this area has really increased since we’ve been visiting the past few years so my advice would be especially not to visit at a weekend.

Loved our time in this perfect location with spectacular view.

Perfect location! Close to ferry and bus and grocery shop. Ran down a few mornings to get early ferry tickets, before the crowds arrived. Watch the sunset from the balcony, and had breakfast with the most wonderful view. Great to do a few loads of washing.

The stairs! But did know we’d be up a few flights. Some milk would fave been nice.

Proximity to waterfront, restaurants was perfect. The views from the apartment superb and the designated private car parking made this a super stay

Great spot!

Location was fantastic. Great to have a washing machine and small kitchen too! Clean and well presented.

It was extremely hot for most of our stay and difficult to leave the windows open without light streaming in - no air-conditioning.

Could not have picked a better location. The steps 59 were hard with our suitcases. The place could be a little cleaner, mould in the shower.

Great Location with stunning views from balcony

Great location convenient to ferry, buses and restaurants. We enjoyed pizza and drinks on the balcony, taking in the stunning views. The apartment was clean and a good size for the two of us. Good communication from Fabio.

Be aware of the loud music coming from across the road at a cocktail bar. The venue pumps out the music day and night. We stayed 5 nights and the worse of it was on Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday the music started at 9.30 am and went through to 2.30 am on Saturday morning! Bring earplugs as you will definitely need them to get some sleep.

Stunning lake view apartment

This apartment is the best we have stayed at.It is very clean and is very well equipped.. The best thing though are the fabulous lake views from the very large terrace .It also has great views at the back .

Location was amazing

The internet was very unreliable and was very intermittent Accessing building was complicated with. Many sets of keys Instructions were ok but unfortunately due to train disruptions we were dropped off by a bus and didn’t know where we were as eSIM and internet connection was unavailable If you are a light sleeper the bar across the road dies play loud music and the traffic is busy due to the ferry access

Wonderful location to base ourselves for our 6 night stay. Walk to train, ferry, beautiful short walk around lake to village. Views from balcony were outstanding.

Casa Mary Varenna is a lovely apartment with an incredible lake view in a great location!

I loved having a private balcony with lounge chairs, and also a table/chairs to enjoy viewing the lake. We enjoyed how close it was from the train station (just a few blocks), and it is very close to the ferry dock (at the end of the street). Several dining/shopping options are within a 5 minute walk. The lakefront walking path is lovely and super easy to walk to more restaurants, etc. within 10 min. The Villa Monastero and gardens are a MUST SEE! The hosts are VERY nice and responsive to questions/requests.

Notes for the following observations: the apartment has a microwave oven and refrigerator but no oven. The apartment is located on the 3rd floor-there is no elevator. These minor issues didn't affect us, but wanted to pass along the information.

We had a memorable 5-night stay in Lake Como. Casa Mary is an excellent home base & made our trip so much more enjoy

The apartment is in a prime location close to the train station. Being in the lake front within 1-2 minutes to the ferry terminal definitely makes town hopping much more easier. To avoid the long line at the ticket office, we could just purchase our tickets early in the morning. The apartment is super clean, spacious & has a million dollar lake view (we got the unit without a terrace but with 2 large windows). We strongly recommend this place.

The WiFi is in & out & the signal is very weak inside the bedroom.

Lovely one bedroom apartment in a great locationn

The location was amazing, 5 minutes from the station, 2 minutes from the ferries and set away from the crowded areas of Varenna town. The apartment was comfortable and well planned with a big bathroom, comfy lounge area and good sized bedroom. We were very comfortable there for our 4 night stay.

This is not a criticism, just a comment. If you experience mobility issues or find stairs challenging, make sure you check which floor your apartment is on, before selecting your apartment.

-Location (close to the train station and ferry terminal) -Beautiful view from the windows -Quiet in the evening -Clean -Coffee and tea available -Water provided in the fridge

-This was not the apartment shown in the photos (only the last 3 pictures on booking.com with brown furniture are of this apartment; the other photos show a completely different flat) -No terrace -Only very basic equipment in the kitchen and bathroom -Very weak Wi-Fi in the kitchen (none at all in the bedroom) -Old, broken hairdryer unusable (plug held together with tape) -Very cold in the apartment in the evenings and at night -We were never able to open the gate with the provided key and had to use the large car entrance instead -Check-in time listed on booking.com was 14:00, but the owner stated it was only possible from 15:00 -Early check-out time (10:00) -Only very basic toiletries provided in the bathroom

We enjoyed our stay which was enhanced by the superb views and convenience to local amenities.

The view from the windows couldn’t be improved on and the nearness to boats and station is a great selling point. The secure parking. Flat was lovely and warm with hot water.

Nearly 40 marble stairs up to the flat. …not for those who aren’t very mobile . Not much kitchen equipment if cooking meals …limited crockery and glassware . No hooks for coats as one comes in the door and nowhere to place drinks mugs when sitting on comfy chairs.

absolutely fabulous!

location is superb, local cafe bar and restaurant. the cutest little station within 5 mins walk with the most fantastic cafe bar with direct links to Milan. fantastic mountain walk (we did about 10km that day)behind and up the hill to castle, old Cemetry and the most stunning view down to the lake through terraced olive groves…… finishing up at villa monastero. views that are mesmerising and moved me to start painting again. beautiful comfy, clean rooms - a perfect base.

Heating seemed to be off in the evening and and came on about 1am, wasn't a big issue and probably easily fixed if we'd asked. Address in Google doesn't give quite the right location (gate is across from the stream) but we found it.

Brilliant in every way

From the minute your stepped through the door this stunning apartment felt like a proper little home. The incredible view of the Lake and behind to the colourful houses on the mountain was amazing and to be able to sit by the window in the cozy warmth and watch the world go by when the weather was bad, was the most perfect of all. Everything you could ask for was included in this extremely clean apartment, a great bed, pillow choices and great linen and a completely fitted out kitchen for cooking meals. The bathroom complete with washing machine which was a great inclusion too. The location is a perfect stroll from the train station, a few minutes walk via the lovely lake side walkway was a delight and finally the ferry was just below the apartment which made it so easy to get around to the other villages. Mary’s communication was spot on and we had a little welcome gift on arrival too. We’ve stayed in Varenna before but this was our hands down favourite!

Very comfortable and clean with everything we needed, really well thought out - including umbrellas which were particularly welcome one day! The car park is wonderful, it removes all the stress of trying to find a spot! The terrace is especially lovely with views of the lake and inland - tables/chairs are easy to move for different views. If you're able to climb 55 steps to reach the apartment, we recommend a stay - it's a little gem.

Gem of a location on Lake Como

The space had a lovely view of Lake Como. It was accessible to the Ferry and we had many choices of restaurants. The bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed for our stay. Space had an oven and a washing machine.

A perfect apartment with incredible views

The location and veiw from the apartment are simply amazing. The apartment was very tidy and had everything we needed. Mary was a wonderful host who helped us navigate a train strike and was there waiting when we arrived. I could not recommend this accommodation more highly.
