VARA hotel met all expectations and the staff went beyond.

The staff is wonderfully supportive of my stay. They extended their time by advising me on dinner and transportation.

Easy check in and out, large room with lovely large windows which let in lots of natural light. Nice staff and short walk into Truro.

The bathroom fan wasn’t very effective making the bathroom very wet when showering. We felt the layout of the room was a little strange as the first thing you see when opening the door to the room was what felt like an office kitchen. It was very practical but it wasn’t very in keeping with the decor and we were a bit confused when we first walked in. A little heads up would have probably helped with this as the actual set up wasn’t bad at all.

limited hanging space in room and no closet. There was only one drawer though there were open plan cubes to store small clothes. No cooked Breakfast option though we knew this when we booked. Not happy with sink in bedroom. Small Shower., Walls had no sound proofing. BRING YOUR EAR PLUGS High window made the room dark

Great location in the town. Good access out of hours. Hotel is easy to find but the back entrance can be tricky when approaching the first time. Friendly staff.

From Australia i am used to a fan in rooms. The hot summer nights and no breeze made things a little warm. Rooms were quiet despite being many on the floor.

Bed uncomfortable Carpets & cushions stained Water pressure poor Shower size very poor, could not bend over to wash feet. Breakfast basic, decent coffee machine broken so charged extra for coffee from their bar. No noise insulation, very creaky floor boards in the corridor.

the staff were so helpful and caring. wonderful communication skills, Staff showed pride in their appearance, , I love their style. I had to see my boyfriend who was in hospital and the staff were very understanding allowing me to keep my luggage at the hotel on the last day just to go to the hospital. The room I was surprise to see the kitchen. overall the very large room was comfortable the design wonderful the classic meet with modern. Love keeping the idea of keeping the key features of a Victoria building and link it to modern styling. I slept well adn the room was quiet,. Breakfast was great. good variety. thank you for your support, the service all at the high level. thanks to Daniel, Sebastian and the gentleman who book me in on the Saturday (sorry i forgot his name). These guys

The room was far too small, the shower had no shelf and was so small it was difficult to pick up shampoo/shower gel off the shower floor whilst showering. The flush on the toilet was very weak and you couldn't hang up a dress on the hangers as the wardrobe was too short so dresses crumpled at the bottom. A smaller room was expected however this one was hardly functional. 😞

my room had nothing of the flava of the hotel. It was facing the car park and the fumes from cars. It was down a very dark corridor as low as you could get in the hotel and it was a room that should’ve been used for cleaning products rather than sleeping in. when I asked for the sink to be drained, they insisted that it had been done and yet the water still didn’t run away, and the sink hadn’t been cleaned after I complaint.

Excellent service with a relaxing vibe.

Daniel that works here went out of his way to welcome us and help us after a particularly stressful day (not caused by the hotel or their staff in any way). He was polite, friendly and went the extra mile to be helpful. The bed was a king and I slept like a log, as it was so comfortable. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The pizzas at night were particularly nice. Lovely little hotel overall.

Overpriced for outdated bathroom and musty smelling room.

The building was beautiful but what’s the point of having a nice lounge room and meeting room if the actual bedroom you’re gonna spend all your time is not the same standard. The room was dusty and smell musty.. I spent most of the night having an allergic reaction to the dust. Also, the bathrooms are really outdated and there wasn’t a shower. I felt like I was staying at old people‘s home.

Shanty weekend , great day great stay

We were welcomed at reception by a lovely gentleman , helpful and informative when we asked for directions to the train station , he gave us our keys early as we headed off out before check in . Thank you for a lovely stay . Breakfast was continental style but it suited us to begin our day 😊

Did the job for a single night stay.

Good location for access to city centre (while on paper it may look like a long walk up a hill it’s actually a nice wander and not arduous) and evening meal was very nice (artisan pizza and tapas board) the staff were great on arrival and evening waitress/barmaid was very friendly and chatty. There is free parking on site for during your stay and if you arrive early you can use the same parking for payment which is a bonus for a city centre. Quiet location. The room was very clean and comfortable bed.

The room was only set up for one despite being booked for two so only one towel, one packet of very broken biscuits etc to share (albeit I could have gone to reception and asked for more had I got dressed and gone back downstairs but this was a hassle). There were no draws and only 2 hangers for clothes, we only stayed one night but if staying longer I would want to be able to unpack and put underwear etc away. Breakfast was very hurried and uncomfortable. The hotel was accommodating a conference, they told us repeatedly on arrival into the breakfast room, so despite saying breakfast until 9am by quarter to things were being cleared around us and we were very obviously in the way and made to feel that we should have arrived earlier. Breakfast is toast, DIY boiled eggs or continental of one type of cheese and one type of meat or cereal, again that may have been as they were packing up to accommodate the conference. We live local and tried this hotel as always being asked for recommendations by friends and family but the hurried and uncomfortable way we were left feeling from breakfast would put me off as ruined the relaxed atmosphere we were hoping to start the day with.

In a reasonable spot in Truro. Bed was ok

Room was very tight. Shower was very weak. Some staff were ok and others not so much. The owner gave a brand new young waitress a dressing down in front of all the diners at breakfast. Shocking clearly the girl had not been given enough if any training. He was quite aggressive and talked down to her as if she was an imbecile. Really poor behaviour
