We enjoyed the history of the hotel, the location, the warm reception, view, and deliciousdinner.

It is an historic hotel, so the rooms are small, however, the reason for staying was the history and location. The staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is available. Location is central and is perfect for strolling around town and enjoying the waterfront. Dinner was delicious in the hotel restaurant.

We have booked again for next year we loved it!

The location was great and we loved the restaurant. The Staff were very helpful excellent service when having to sort a few things out. If there were any issues they resolved them straight away. It is a very pretty historic hotel.

We did have to change rooms after the first night as unfortunately we were able to hear all the banging coming from the kitchen. This was resolved very quickly and we were given a nice room further away.

The tv didn’t work for us properly. When I tried to use the apps on tv (tvnz or Netflix) it took ages then just turned off back to menu. Tried numerous amount of times. Wifi was slow. Staff weren’t particularly friendly. We also had a bad experience at the restaurant for our dinner.

When we had lunch in the restaurant with friends, our server disappeared and we had to go and ask other staff members to continue serving our meal and offering us dessert. This was very odd.

Brilliant, can’t wait for next time

Dinner was exceptional. The slow cooked lamb was on the menu which we always go for and as usual it was cooked to perfection. We had two guests from UK and they were utterly impressed.The staff so friendly and polite. Outstanding service. We couldn’t rate them higher

Utterly charming, beautifully renovated and maintained to a great standard, location unbeatable, an early evening drink on the balcony is such a highlight. The restaurant was excellent. Room was spacious and clean.

In general we enjoyed the comfort, ambiance and food of the hotel.

The bed and linen were superb. Biscuits and tea facilities were also appreciated but there was no milk. Our dinner was delicious and waiters singing happy birthday was lovely. We also appreciated being able to borrow four champagne glasses to celebrate two concurrent birthdays.

We had a problem with the smell of urine in our room from the first time we opened the door. I mentioned this to the receptionist who said she would look into it while we had dinner. When we returned to our room there was a strong smell of air freshener that masked the urine smell but by morning it had returned. The bathroom had looked very clean so I think the smell came from the carpet. The receptionist said there was a large wedding celebration the weekend before (we arrived on a Monday) and that might have contributed to the problem. We would have requested a different room but wanted to be next to our travelling friends. The breakfast muesli/oats was overpriced in my view.
