Nothing could of been better. Liked everything about our stay. Location must be best in Southampton also.

Good central location.
Clean room and a nice breakfast.
Nice comfy bed.
Our room didn’t have a bath which was a little disappointing.
No fruit available at breakfast either.
Water pressure when showering was very poor.

Come and go as you please
I love the Star and only stay here on my trips to Southampton, I have never stayed in the same room twice but the room I stayed in (room 3) was my least favourite by far with the toilet being in the shower, I can appreciate saving space, but I hope I don’t get another room like that again 🤞🏻

The staff, were all brilliant, the location is great and the breakfast superb. The room was spacious, warm and comfortable, though in dire need of an update/refurb. A most pleasant stay, in an hotel crying out for investment and a refurb. The staff were superb, welcoming and friendly, which helped one forgive the dilapidation of the premises and for that reason we will book again and expect to be back soon.
The entire building looked, but did not feel, unloved. The decor is very tired, the furniture from another era and mismatched. The hall ways and stair carpets were worn and grubby.

Cooked breakfast was very good. Bathroom was very modern. Room was spotless. Comfy bed but creaked!
Single glaze windows because it’s a listed building, we heard everything outside. Too much noise in corridor as everyone had to pass our room. Room 2. Lumpy pillows! One too hard the other too flat. We put up with it for we only stayed 1 night.

Not much - location was great, everything else was not so much.
Hotel had a real run down appearance - the room was shabby, with chipped paint etc, a carpet that looked dirty and a shower tray that have suspicious marks in it (hopefully they were just scratches or dents but they could have been something infinitely worse). Also, curtains failed to keep out the bright lights from the multi-storey car park directly facing the room. It's such a shame - it was clearly a great hotel in the past, but now feels that it's heading for closure. Sad, sad, sad.

Good location. Nicely decorated.
Room really small, with no cupboards or wardrobe. Hardly room to put all our luggage and walk round the bed. Bathroom had no heating, really small. Tiny corner hand basin and no hand towels or bath mat.

The room was incredibly spacious with all the basics you could need supplied. We had a box of chocolates laid on our bed when we arrived - a wonderful touch as it was our anniversary. The parking is a nice bonus. The breakfast was delicious, and they even had gluten-free bread for my partner. It was not noisy at all, and all the staff were very friendly and attentive! The hotel itself is an old coaching inn and the history of the place is fantastic. We stayed here as we were checking out the Christmas markets in both Southampton and Winchester, the latter only being a 15 minute train journey away.
The place could do with a lick of paint in some areas in the room, but that is about it really.

Great location which allowed for walking to restaurants, bars and shops.
A bit dated. Our bed had a dip in it which didn’t make for a great nights sleep.
2.0 / 10.0
The hotel was very dated as were the rooms/facilities. The toilet was in a very poor state and we were given very small shower gels that were already half empty so had to buy our own for the 2nd night because housekeeping didn't supply any more.

The staff are wonderful! From the front desk to the bar, to the breakfast room. I've stayed in top hotels which have staff that are a million miles away from the quality of The Star Hotel. Whatever they are being paid, they deserve more! Thank you, you made our trip even better than we had imagined!

Great location, nice breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable bed.
We had 2 heavy suitcases for a cruise. We were on the top floor but the lift had been out of action “for some time”.

Breakfast excellent. Bar cosy and well priced.
Rooms need refurbishment. Dated furniture and fittings and decor in poor condition. Mattresses awful and very uncomfortable with broken springs. Reception surly and promised free parking for Blue Badge, but later took the cost from the £25 "security" they take on arrival.

This was a charming coaching inn with a good central location. Amenities were basic but all you need. Reception was well manned. Full English breakfast was spot on too - especially for £9.
