One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had

I booked two nights at Hotel Café Restaurant Abina but couldn’t even stay because of the unbearable noise from the bar/restaurant located directly below the rooms. There was a loud party that went on late into the night, and even with earplugs it was impossible to sleep. The room itself might have been fine, but what’s the point if you can’t rest at all? I ended up leaving and not using the room at all. It’s completely unacceptable for a hotel to rent out rooms in such noisy conditions without warning guests in advance. I’ve never had such an experience with a Booking.com stay before, and I really hope the hotel and Booking.com take this feedback seriously. I’ve requested a full refund since the stay was unusable.

Delivers what it says: 'unfussy (read cheap) stay with lively vibes'

My favourite part was the breakfast. I felt it had enough options, unlike many 'budget' accommodations. My bed was comfortable and the staff was absolutely lovely and very accommodating. In a couple of occasions they went out of their way to make sure my needs were catered for. The rooms are basic but once again, this is a budget stay, not a luxury boutique hotel.

Yes, the hotel has live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays but they also have quiet rooms across the road. So I suggest giving them a call if you have an issue with this. Some guests, especially the younger ones, might actually not be annoyed by it. My bed and bathroom were clean but the room could do with some more thorough cleaning (ie cobwebs, under the bed). My bathroom didn't have any soap. Although I feel they could improve the rooms with very little effort, I stayed at other budget hotels and I have to say this is in line with what you get anywhere for value price.

1, Easy to find 2, Excellent service 3, Good breakfast selection 4, Comfortable beds 5, Area felt very safe with lovely parks nearby 6, Clean room, clean general areas 7, Power shower 8, Great location for a trip to Amsterdam with good and easy bus and tram options but not having to pay the plain scarey prices closer to the city (40 min journey to Centraal Station) 9, Excellent value Someone came in, opened the windows, emptied the bin and gave us fresh towels every day we were there (3) At least one of the staff had the patience of a saint, as I was queueing to get my room key re-done and the young man was helping someone on the phone (my bad I put it next to my phone ) a "gentleman" fellow guest started clicking his fingers at him and then attempted to push in front of me to have his issue dealt with ! He handled it with calm and politeness . Some guests :( I will address some other commenters notes. Yes the music downstairs was loud, but we had a fri/sat/sun stay, and on fri/sat they are open till 3am, if you are going for the weekend bring some earplugs. One of the showers does have a bit of mould on the ceiling, the shower rooms don't have extractor fans to pull the damp air out and are inside with no window so this is going to be a constant thing, it was the only not so clean thing in the shower room. The facilities are dated, but the price reflects this. No idea about the heating the room was warm enough at this time of year so we did not turn it on. There was a cold air fan in the wardrobe, also unused. would I go back - absolutely

Only 2 sockets in the room and no-where near the bed, one was for the tv. With modern devices needing charging this was a bit inconvenient. There was one cute chair but no table or stand of any kind which forced us to put our bags on the bed to pack/unpack, I personally don't like doing that, a small runner or blanket on the bottom of the bed so you don't have to put grubby case wheels on white covers could solve this also.

One time is enough

Nice location, good bus connection to Amsterdam

When i arrived i ask for a table to eat something, guy behind counter told me i can eat at the bar otherwwise they can't serve me. I go for a walk, when i come back they managed to give me a table, i waited almost 40minband noone come to my table to take my order so i left. Music till 2am ,my bed was shaking. next morning i go for breakfast, it was a joke, coffe from thermos where they serve cofee from coffee machine to locals, to eat they just served old cheese and some spam like ham and toast bread. Personel very arogant. Locals treated way better than hotel guests. In my opinion this shouldn't be called hotel . Mold in the bathroom. Beds are stained. Widow can't be closed.L

I didn’t mind the rooms were above a bar with loud music, sadly other guests were very loud right outside my room till about 3am. Groups of people were singing outside my door, not trying to be quiet for other guests. This isn’t the staffs fault the set up means unless you think of other people you can really effect others stay. It felt quite intimidating at times based on how loud they were

Room & bathroom were clean. Location is superb, close to Lidl, convenient bus stop.

Room is extremely small. Of the 3 days I stayed, shared toilet was not clean on 1 day.

You should not stay this hotel

The first floor is a bar, but it turns into a disco with loud music until 2 a.m. The noise is very loud and clearly heard from the room—I couldn’t believe a hotel like this actually exists. Also, the shower is shared, and there was no soap available, which I did not expect. The breakfast was terrible as well; we had to book in advance, but the options were very limited. I stayed one night for 104 euros, but it was definitely overpriced.

Easy bus connections to Schiphol and Amsterdam and a friendly climate.

Good personal contacts with the two managers. They are working hard to upgrade their hotel one step at a time which is OK with me. When I travel I like to think that what I pay is going to support local people rather than a faceless international brand.

No air conditioning was my biggest issue!

The staff were accommodating and friendly! Also the trip to downtown is quite easy to navigate so I had no trouble getting to where I wanted. And the restaurant in the hotel is a plus!

No time given to when the restaurant closes, I had to order out on my last day. And there is no air conditioning in the rooms, I had a rough three days.

Friendly staff. The neighbourhood was a nice area. Good coffee for breakfast.

The room was too small for 2 adults. Amenities were not adequate (such as hairdryer/ slippers/ hangers). No wifi password provided in the room. The rooms were so close that noises could be heard easily. No sign for the entrance/ entrance not easy to find when the bar was open and crowded. Did not expect to share the bathroom & toilet with 7 other rooms.

Shared toilet and shower. Got locked out of my room twice because you need your room key to get back in. This meant going into a busy pub in my pyjama’s to get back into my room! Don’t know what I would have done if the pub had already been closed…:( Also lots of noise in the corridor and too many people sharing the toilet
