Inn carries a sense of calm. Ultimate relaxation for weary travellers.
No bathroom ensuite.

Comfy room
Self check in unclear instructions. Staff did not greet us the next morning while we sat around wondering if we were getting breakfast.

The property was advertised as having a great, individually cooked breakfast. The day before we arrived we were told it wasn’t going to be that. At the inn there was a note saying the breakfast would be ‘House made pastries and yogurt’. In fact it was grocery store donuts and Danish’. I also called because there was a wildfire nearby, and they never returned my call. The porch was poorly maintain.

The place advertised marvelous hot breakfast. When we got there asked what time breakfast was served and was told ‘the owner discontinued it several months ago due to cost. All we have is a plate of cookies at 7:30, but there are breakfast places 2 mins away.’ I’m a runner and can tell you those places were 20 mins walk away down a steep hill and another 20 plus back, a 2 hour waste of our trip.
Was also told they’d have coffee at 7:30. Went down and at 740 called only to find out ‘730 is when the coffee person walks in the door…not when the coffee was ready. Disgusted we got in the car and drove to a place in town. I told Michael this place is using false advertising. He was nice and gave me one of our 3 nights at half off. The thing is I’d rather have had the hot breakfast, as advertised.
Provide the breakfast as advertised …and the steep hill so far from the Main Street.

Location
Poor property maintenance, filthy kitchen, unprofessional staff, misrepresentation of room amenities: the room was advertised as a king plus twin bed-the twin turned out to be a roll-away and there was not enough space in the room to use it!
4.0 / 10.0
The location, the size of the room and how clean and tidy it was.
This room was a real letdown. It was crammed with stuff that didn't work or couldn't be used – a broken stove, a TV, and a coffee maker and kettle with nowhere to plug them in. The Wi-Fi extender they gave us actually made the internet worse, so we had to unplug it to get a weak signal from downstairs. And the blackout blind on the door (right in front of the bed) was too small, so the hallway light shone into the room all night. The bathroom was badly designed too; one switch turned on both the light and a loud fan, so anyone using it would wake everyone else up. We also paid extra for breakfast based on good reviews, but right before we arrived, they told us it was canceled and we (and everyone present) would just get free coffee and a few muffins in the morning. Plus, the hot tub was closed because of some permit issue.

Meager continental breakfast.
Microwave didn’t work. Adjoining managers quarters sent food odors into our room late at night.

Beautiful old house.
Uncomfortable and small Murphy Bed. No bathroom in our room.
Expensive considering our accommodations.

The room I was in was to cold. No thermostat and no one to ask. Could not find an extra blanket in the closet.

Staff were extremely helpful. Room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing!
It is a great place but if I am being very critical here are some comments. The view from our room was the parking lot. The lights were bright in the windows all night but the drapes did help. If you are walking, the inn is up a steep hill from the town where all the restaurants are.

For breakfast, the parfait & crepes were truly outstanding - flavorful with great textures. The staff & other guests were fun to talk to, and there was a welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed reading & conversing on the front deck. My wife and I mostly walked to our destinations, and we enjoyed the proximity to downtown.
The omelette & frittata were fine, but not excellent. Our bed was also a bit less comfortable than I had hoped.

I had been aware of this property for a long time but my first opportunity to stay was just recent. the location is very central to main street shops & restaurants and in a quiet neighborhood. The bed was comfortable & the flat screen TV was excellent. WiFi was very good.
I try to be generous with more historic type properties. However, we had to reset the electrical panel twice in our two day stay. You are basically on your own there with owner off site (though text communications were efficient). The room (Rose) was an ‘upgrade’ (at no cost) due to or original room not having a bathroom en-suite. The bathroom had a large tub but the shower setup was not very efficient. If you are anything other than an average bodied person it would be impossible to sit on the toilet seat due to its tight proximity/clearance to the tub. There is no central heating (only space heaters). Being an older house electrical plugs were at a premium. Kitchen area was cramped. Not well stocked with dishes/utensils. Although the house overall is ‘quaint’ it comes across as more ‘dated’ with a need for refurbishment.

charming old house with an “inn” flair. fairly good location, quiet
not that well maintained, better cleaning of the facilities would be required. no employees at property and a bit hard to get a hold of.

The yogurt parfait was great, the rest of the breakfast was not very good. Dry french toast, like it was pre-made. We got the smallest portion of scrambled eggs we have ever seen, (1/2 an egg each).
We are easy to please and don't like to complain, but the breakfast was very disappointing.

If you like old historic homes with the bed-and-breakfast, quaint historic inns vibe, complete with wavy glass windows and clawfoot tub, then this is the place for you.
If you DON’T like old historic homes with the bed-and-breakfast, quaint historic inns vibe, complete with wavy glass windows and clawfoot tub, then this is NOT the place for you.
Be aware this is on a fairly busy corner in the city and you will hear some street noise from passing traffic. We were thankful there was a space heater provided in the bedroom because our second-floor room did not appear to have any central heat.
It would have been nice to have some heavy blankets or a comforter for the bed.

I did not opt to pre-order the breakfast, but from what I saw it looked great.
The key to my room was very difficult to move in the lock, and as a result I was unable to lock my door when I went out for dinner. Also, the bathroom assigned to my room was down the hall. No one else used it but me, but having to leave my room to shower was a little inconvenient.

From the minute you walk in the door, you are welcomed and feel at home. Beautiful Inn, incredibly comfortable. So many fun activities to enjoy.

The owner and host of Inn at the Gorge, Michael, was very friendly and personable. We started off our morning with coffee and a delicious breakfast, and Michael shared sights for us to explore, as well as nearby restaurants. He told us about a hike to a waterfall across the Columbia River that was fabulous. We enjoyed staying at the inn, and with only 6 rooms, it had a cozy feel. There was a lovely front porch, and the location in Hood River, Oregon was perfect. It was a wonderful place to stay, and a beautiful city to visit.
