A charming old world facility in need of some updating.

The hotel has charm from an earlier era. Its location is stunning: perched on a cliff high above the Columbia River. Views from riverside rooms are expansive. Garden side rooms provide views of the parking lot. We enjoyed a very good breakfast in the hotel's dining room. The omelets were excellent. The lounge featured live music on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, some of the facilities at the hotel are from another era. You might simply call them old. We had to accept a garden side room on our first night because the river side room we had booked was unavailable due to a maintenance issue. The staff was able to move us to a spacious river side room for our last two nights. The toilet in our new room would run after we had flushed it, so we had to turn the water supply off to avoid wasting water.

Adequate but not impressive.

The hotel is lovely and historic. The staff is so nice!!!! You couldn't ask for better customer service.

The rooms aren't very nice. You can hear everyone everywhere and they are LOUD. We didn't sleep all night. The bed was so sloped, my daughter rolled off in the night hitting her head on the nightstand. The refrigerator didn't work so my insulin went bad. That was no good at all. We tried to put the leftovers from our $200 dinner in the fridge but they went bad as well. That is after they leaked through the takeout box. The ac unit had some odd blinking red and blue light we couldn't get to turn off. It was crazy bright and we finally found a blanket we had to put over it. However, the light was so bright it shone and blinked through the blanket. All night the room felt like a raid was happening. The view was beautiful but the price for the rooms are way way way overpriced. I honestly couldn't wait to leave.

The hotel is lovely; it’s been a few years since we had visited but we had a lovely time.

Clean, well maintained, comfortable bed..

The host at dinner was not attentive, didn’t leave one or ask if we were interested in a beverage menu. Long wait until waitress came. She was fantastic & very personable. The original weirdness from the person who sat us & then left us ignored was kind of a bummer since we were celebrating an anniversary.

Wonderful hotel with fabulous views of the Columbia River and a great restuarant and bar.

The restaurant was fabulous. Excellent menu, great food well prepared. Good wine list and great bar. Bar menu was also quite good and you cou eat outside with a view of the river or in the very elegant and comfortable lounge. The location had a very large garden with its own waterfall overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.

You had to ask the front desk staff to run the elevator (over 100 years old).

Beautiful hotel and grounds

We were married here 37 years ago and came back for our anniversary. It is still so beautiful. The grounds and all the gardens are absolutely beautiful. The hotel sits on a bluff above the Columbia River. Staff was very nice and made our anniversary special. Our room, which had a gas fireplace, was beautiful with a view of the gardens and river. I highly recommend this hotel for a special occasion or a peaceful getaway.

Old moldy small rooms

Nothing I like at this place

Old hotel with moldy smell. Very tiny room and bathroom. No hooks for towels at all. Garden view it is roof view:( Personal is rude. The manadger is hiding from customers. Nobody knows where he is and when will be. Big signs all over that they have life music at 8 pm. But nobody told us that restaurant is closed at 8 pm. No music either. Bar has limited menu not good for vegetarian. Slow service too. Thursday hotel has wedding. Most property was closed.

Beautiful and special

We reserved a room facing the garden, but it was right above the garbage court. The AC was very noisy and not effective. There is no coffee machine in the room. Finally, the fine dining restaurant was quite mediocre. I recommend the casual one.

We enjoyed the stay and the property is beautiful. There were big events while there so we felt it was hard to enjoy the property overall because we didn’t want to intrude, hopefully our next stay we make it on a weekend where there aren’t back to back events!

I didn’t particularly like having to need someone to take us up the elevator because there wasn’t always someone at the front desk.

Dining experience was not great. Dinner service was confusing. While a perfectly capable server was trying to serve us, an elderly host was stepping in and getting everyone confused. The server at breakfast was flustered, dropped and broke a dish and was overly apologetic. She was also a bit rude.

Lovely historic hotel peacefully situated on the Columbia River, convenient for many activities.

I liked being outside of the hubbub of town. The location on the river was so scenic and peaceful. We enjoyed watching a couple of weddings that occurred on the property while we were there.

I wish I’d had a coffee maker in my room. We coldn’t find help to get our bags downstairs on the day we checked out.

Oh, I wish the stones in the garden walls could talk...more.

The history, the horticulture combine to tell a story of a connection to the pass and to the present. The elevator still has its pull gate. Apples were given out at reception. tyingIt the hotel to their community. A romantic stroll through the grounds will leave a memory.

Lacks the accommodations one would expect for a wedding venue and Historic Hotel

This Historic hotel is rustic and needs further updates to make it more appealing. The front reception area lacks staffing, professionalism and could use a face lift. The guest room doors have gaps above and below with light shining in from the hall and you can hear the people in the next room showering, talking and everything else. Our guest room had a “staff only” staircase right on the other side of our headboard and we were woken up at all hours of the night at 1 and 2am by a person (or a ghost?)running up and down the stairs! The elevator is only operated by the front desk staff “when they are available” so that is not a good thing for someone with a lot of luggage, Elderly or disabled. The restaurant and bar staff were extremely nice and the housekeeping staff were very attentive to our room during our week long stay. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained and the grounds keeper was friendly as well. The gardens, river, waterfall and ducks were a magical experience and we enjoyed exploring. All in all it was a nice place it just lacks the elevated service and amenities for the nightly rates that they are charging during weddings and peak season.

This is a beautiful hotel. We were late to check in but the staff was friendly and accommodating. We had a late dinner in the bar/lounge area and it was fantastic. Exceptional, I would definitely stay here again.

The chairs in our room were horrible - hard as concrete. It would have been great to sink into a comfy chair! It was disappointing after hiking all day to go to our room and have to lay on the bed for comfort!

What I enjoyed about this hotel was that it was absolutely gorgeous on the inside, the breakfast was really good, and the staff who were attending to us at the breakfast were really nice and friendly, as well as one staff member with semi colored hair and glasses who helped us up the elevator.

My main concern with this hotel was that when I walked in to check in for the night multiple people looked at me as I was waiting at the front desk but no one bothered to help. I figured they were busy so I decided to take a photo of the front entrance. As I was taking the photo an older lady with blonde hair came out to do something on the computer and proceeded to return to the back behind the front desk. I then told my friend, is this not the front desk? Shortly after the blonde lady returned and said, she thought I was just taking a photo of the place. In my head I’m thinking, you guys just allow random people to come in here and take photos of this place? She finally helped me, not many words exchanged which I thought was odd for such a place as this, I would think she would give more customer service and speak about breakfast and things of that sort. We went off to our room but not before catching a glimpse of the bar with the beautiful fireplace. I noted that the bartender was in there and sent a hello his way, I then asked him if breakfast was in here as well as there seemed to be a decent seating area. He proceeded to not say a single word but only point to his left. At this point all the interactions were just not up to par for a hotel of this kind. I began to think either these staff members were rude because we were looking a little underdressed after a 15+ hour day of driving or they were rude due to the color of our skin. Either way I did not get good vibes and it’s so sad that just a few people can ruin such a beautiful place.

Bed was hard very uncomfortable. Husband and I woke up with backaches. Had a 2 night stay but we forfeited the second night because we left due to the bed. Also the room was very small. But it was the bed that made us decide to leave.
