The property was peaceful, charming, and surrounded by beautiful nature. I loved the traditional Japanese atmosphere and the slower pace of life in Ohara. The room was comfortable and clean, and the host were warm, welcoming, and made me feel at home. It was the perfect place to disconnect from the crowds of Kyoto and enjoy a quieter side of Japan.

The location may feel a little remote for travellers who prefer to stay close to central Kyoto, and public transport options are more limited. However, this is also part of the charm of staying in Ohara and was not a major issue for me.

The owners are absolute gems, and struggle through with rough English and google translate. The room itself was huge. The bedding is on the floor, traditional Japanese style. That said it wasn't the most comfortable futon we stayed on. They offer dinner at the hotel for a very reasonable price and I highly recommend it. Really great value and really delicious, it's served at 6pm. There's not many restaurants nearby that open at night, so it's a great option. The onsen is a big rock bath, perfect temperature, nice for a relax. They give you kimonos to wear around the hotel. The town itself is stunning, and you're walking distance to many of the shrines and gardens, as well as cute cafes and eateries (not open at night). We would definitely return.

The hosts of the ryokan were accommodating and welcoming beyond words. They made us feel right at home despite the language barrier. The dinner and breakfast were fully vegan after we communicated our dietary preferences and genuinely some of the best food we’ve had. The amenities in the women’s room were complete with shampoo, conditioner, makeup remover, face wash, a face steamer (wow!), hair dryer, straighteners, and curling iron. The attention to detail was immaculate. The onsen was cosy and relaxing. They have yukatas for all sizes. The ryokan is located in beautiful Ohara within walking distance of many shrines and temples. Can’t recommend enough.
