Set in a quiet area just off the cobbled main street in Alston, this terraced holiday cottage was formerly the home of a farm labourer. Originally built in 1611 the property has now been sympathetically restored whilst retaining much of its character and charm. The beam above the fireplace dates back over a thousand years, and was previously part of an ancient ship! The property boasts an upstairs balcony with a sun room, perfect for relaxing and watching the sun set. On the border of Cumbria and Northumbria, Alston is the highest market town in England, and is ideal for touring the northern lakes, Yorkshire Dales and Northumbria. Within easy driving distance are Hadrians Wall, Hexham, Newcastle, the Metro Centre, Beamish Museum, Ullswater or Keswick. Alston lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Pennine Way running close to the cottage, and spectacular scenery all around. There is a range of traditional pubs and shops, local crafts and the narrow gauge railway in the town. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
