Very disappointed. Should NOT be advertised as a 4 star.

Ample parking space

This is clearly NOT a 4 star property. We didn’t get the accommodation that we had specially booked, because it had been given to someone else. The Clydesdale (our so-called upgrade) was filthy, cluttered, and outdated, plus Hamsteels no longer answer the phone to our complaint.

Excellent host and beautiful location

Loved the rural farm location- very peaceful and felt at home there. June was very helpful and provide us with discount codes for our Beamish visit and chatted about the farm with us- being farmers ourselves we found this very interesting.

The house information folder could have been in a more prominent position- finally discovered it in the bedside drawer!

What can I say? This is my third trip in two years and there will certainly be a fourth. Fantastic place, beautiful backdrop, very quiet, large apartments, family owned and run by June and Frank who are lovely folk ...... I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in when in the NE. Andrew Collett

A wonderful countryside retreat

Superb location - so quiet and peaceful - not far from a beautiful nature reserve, deep in the countryside. Great for viewing birds, fauna and flora. June the host and her family were lovely and helpful, and interesting to talk to about the history of the area, especially Hamsteels Hall. The Bull Pen is spacious, clean, comfortable and full of character. I would recommend this tranquil getaway to anyone.

Cooking pots/pans poor. Doors not fitting/closing easily. Cistern tends to stick in main bathroom , water running sound for ages. General feel of needing some DIY / upgrading. Not well cleaned

Dairy Cottage - lovely spacious accommodation. Plenty of parking. Friendly and helpful hosts. Close to Durham (approx 15 mins drive). When sat Nav indicates you have arrived at the cottages you probably haven’t - depending on which way you have come, carry on up the hill until you see the lowdown sign for the cottages on the right.
