Dove Cottage, Tideswell

Tv not working signal breaking up due to wether. A known problem with this system ( fortunately pub opposite had big screen outdoor for match)

Comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage, everything we needed including a dish washer and washing machine. Good storage space in the bedrooms, lots of pictures, a very good selection of books. A welcome pack, toiletries and nice towels. Lovely village location with an assortment of shops, cafes restaurants, bus services and nice walks directly from the cottage.

We did know there was no outside space/ garden when we booked. We didn’t like the screen on the back kitchen window and it seemed unnecessary as there was a blind there that could be used. The shower room did have a little area that needed new grout/sealant. Otherwise it was very good.

It’s a lovely little cottage. Just right for our needs. Very comfortable and cosy.

It was really difficult to get into the keysafe. A neighbour had to help us to prize-open the door. We were sorry not to find any recycling facilities/bins. We couldn’t work out how to use the dishwasher. I think it might need some more salt and something else as there were a couple of red lights on??? There wasn’t anything to mop the bathroom floor with after the shower. It would be better to have a solid door for the shower, to keep the water from splashing all over the floor.

The location of the property was perfect for our trip. Access was easy and parking was not a problem in general on the roadside. The information given was easy to access and follow. We were left some essentials to keep us going. The host was very timely in responding to several issues we had and was even prepared to come out on Christmas Day if necessary.

Sadly during our stay we lost power in the bathroom more than once, meaning the light and fan did not work. My husband showered in the dark but I had to find an alternative place to shower. Also, the heating played up. Twice not coming on at all and once coming on when it was meant to be off. We were able to make do with a fire to warm up and thankfully the weather was not freezing otherwise it would have been a bigger issue. However, it made sleeping uncomfortable and was generally a pain to have to try and manage. We went to cook one night but there was not a big enough pan for the two of us, bit odd. Sadly I feel short-changed from this visit and will have to look elsewhere for my next trip.
