Anglers rest

Great apartment in a good location for exploring the Peak District. The bed was comfortable and good facilities, all very clean and welcoming.

This is a perfect place to stay if you are travelling with your dog. The apartment is fatastic if you have muddy dogs and boots the flooring is resilient to this and easy to clean. The area is open plan where you can all dry off, prepare a cuppa, read books or watch telly whilst you do so! We went in January 2026 in quite chilly weather and the apartment stayed warm throughout. The location is stunning! Right on the Monsal Trail so the walks are plentiful. We had a great walk along the trail to Bakewell. This is a 15 mile round trip with beautiful landscapes along the way. Bakewell has agreat celection of pubs, shops, a fabulous butcher and cheese shop. I would suggest a visit to Castleton, we drove there. It is a quaite picturesque village highlighting the beauty of the Peaks. There lots to explore, the cave, castle, walks and of course pubs! We ate in the Anglers Rest Pub in the evenings and the food was very tasty. The hosts were lovely too, welcoming and super helpful. We will definitely be returning!

Just to warn you there are quite steep steps up to the apartment which was fine for us but for those less able it might be an issue. However if you're visiting the Peaks that comes with the territory!

Having to leave..

The location and the beer. There's seating in the car park, which allowed us to watch various birds/ducks swimming/flying along the river. Monsal Trail is also just 5 minutes up a path and the views etc are stunning. 8.5 miles of stunning scenery. Hassop Railway Station is also a great place to stop for breakfast.

It was a bit like going back to the 19th Century. Hot taps from electric units that dribbled water out, and the shower was even worse. Placed a small shampoo bottle on the shelf and the shelf fell off! Food in the pub has gone downhill too. We've stayed in the Peak District many times and always eaten in the Anglers Rest. The food in the past has been excellent. This time however, the pastry on the Steak Pie wasn't cooked through, the mash was awful (luke warm and no seasoning), and as for the veg, if I closed my eyes I'd have had no idea what I was eating, very bland. I had the pork steaks the following day, and they were done to death. I wondered why I needed a steak knife, but then I found out, they were tough as old boots! And finally, the peas, they were like bullets. Very poor overall.
