Absolutely beautiful, well maintained cottage with everything you could possibly need. The owner has really thought of everything. My partner and I and our small dog stayed for a week and were blessed with amazing weather, making very good use of the lovely terrace overlooking the lush green fields. Tideswell is a gem of a village and not too far from Bakewell, Buxton and other places accessible by the good local bus routes, as well as lovely walks. Several pubs closeby serving good food and cask beers with friendly and welcoming service, especially from the team at the Star Inn that we visited for dinner a few times. Would highly recommend a stay at Swift Cottage. We could not have wished for anything better!

Cottage is cosy with modern facilities and is located towards the top of the village with steps to gain access. Would recommend the cottage and location as long as you’re mobile.

Unfortunately, this accommodation fell short of the standards that we have previously enjoyed with self-catering accommodation. When we made the booking, we enquired about bike storage and were advised that there was storage available in the back garden, for both our bikes. When we arrived, we had to remove a large BBQ from the storage area before we could put the bikes in. Our host said that if he’d known we were taking bikes, he would have had it ready! On the first day we weren’t able to open the bathroom door. Although the host came out straight away, we did manage to open the door just as he arrived. He said that he had noticed that the door handle had been sticking and if it continued to do so, then to let him know. It is my view that he should have repaired the door handle before we arrived. We also had a problem with the parasol. I wound the parasol up using the handle and it sprung back on my hand (which was rather painful). Again, the host came out promptly, but it was clear that the broken parasol was a known problem and it was no longer fit for purpose. The radiator/towel rail in bathroom was set on a timer and there were very clear instructions that we were not to alter the timings. We were there during a heatwave with temperatures reaching 36 degrees. In spite of this, the bathroom radiator was on for at least 5 hours in the morning and it was back on again in the evening, which made the heat upstairs very uncomfortable. The back garden fence had fallen down where the back garden met the roof extension. This wouldn’t be safe for younger children. The front garden had become overgrown e.g. only one person could sit on the bench because the bushes had grown over one side making in uncomfortable to sit there. The settee was very uncomfortable with broken springs on two of the seats. The guide for holiday guests was out of date e.g. it referred to a Now TV console and white remote control, which didn’t exist. The leaflets were also out of date e.g. the Chatsworth House leaflet was dated 2016. In other accommodation, the hosts have gone out of their way to ensure that their guests enjoy their holiday experience e.g. by providing a small welcome pack and providing up to date information for their guests. Unfortunately, on this occasion our impression was that the host had done the bear minimum required to let the property. I wouldn’t return to this accommodation and I wouldn’t recommend it.

We (2 adults 2 dogs) loved this historic quarryman’s village cottage, immaculate, in beautiful condition, fab log burner 🔥top end jacuzzi bath and shower, homely very modern kitchen with all mod cons… loved meeting the friendly locals at the Roost Café, cracking food, recommend the Red Lion for food and drinks, and the Anglers Rest (grateful refreshments on Tideswell Trail)… this village has it all, and we’d highly recommend supporting all of the local shops and amenities, they need to and deserve to survive and be successful. Loved every minute of our 2 day stay, even though the Peaks weather threw everything at us, to test us all and our walking kit!!! Thanks Charles and Adele… keep up your excellent work 😊
