The Whale and Hermanus wound up being a highlight of our trip around South Africa, it’s a fantastic B&B!

We made a last minute decision to stay in Hermanus at The Whale on Main and it wound up being one of the highlights of our trip! Even though we made a last minute booking, the host greeted us with enthusiasm and warmth, making us feel right at home. He had great recommendations for making the most of our night in town including nearby hikes along the cliff and a great dinner spot within walking distance. We fell completely in love with Hermanus and plan to stay for a few nights at The Whale on our next trip to SA. The room was perfect and the bathroom even had these cool makeup removing pads I’m now trying to find back in the states. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning and the hosts gave us great, honest tips for our journey back to Cape Town, their guidance and suggestions were invaluable! Have nothing but positive things to say about The Whale!!

Right on the cliff trail, a wonderful design mansion

Tanja was fantastic, she gave us the best highlits and made us better comprehend the real southafrican soul. We admired the fine architecture and interior design of the house. The breakfast is rich, with a complete mix of sweet and non-sweet dishes

Tanya and her team were fantastic, providing us with a friendly and professional experience. The breakfast was awesome, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the location is great for accessing everything you need during your stay.

The place was extremely clean and beautiful!! The owners were so kind and showed a great hospitality to take care of me. There were some magazines and the local newspaper, which I really enjoyed. The special treat drink was provided for free. No other place cared about those little things.

Marlene and Zeno have an absolute gem and immediately I was sure that I'll be back next year.

Super clean accommodation, modern with a very personal touch of the owner couple. They are going the extra mile, lovely, heartwarming people with a great sense for hospitality. This is the place to stay when in Hermanus. Only 2 minutes walking to the cliffpath from where it is possible to watch the whales in the bay

Great rooms and wonderful owners

Cute little Guest House with two fabolous owners who did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They even did our laundry for us (we only stayed overnight) and did everything to provide me vegan breakfast choices. Loved the big room and the wonderful shower.

Best place to enjoy Hermanus

Wonderful modern B&B! Room was exceptionally comfortable with kingsize bed, balcony and amazing view! Zeno made us feel home straight away, giving us lots of nice tips about Hermanus. Breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked every morning (I especially loved the mushrooms). You can do very nice walks along the coast and in the mountains close by. We even saw some brydes whales!

Best Accomodations!

Such a perfect location, walking distance from the heart of Hermanus. The cliff walk is across the street and you can get anywhere from there. Our hosts were so very helpful when we found out that we had accidentally double booked ourselves because of a connection glitch with the app. They were able to guide us in cancelling the duplicate reservation and followed up to be sure the entire refund came through. A fabulous breakfast too! You will love it here!

Not many people can prepare a poached egg perfect. These eggs were perfect. The food was well presended and tastefull. I can understand why Marlene wouldn't share her mushroom recipe. They went out of their way to accomodate changes in menu due to allergies

A great base for Hermanus

The host was very welcoming and helpful. The room was comfy and the breakfast was great! The Whale is a short walk along the coast to restaurants/ shops and it was easy to get around.

Blackout curtains would have been good (but that's only because I'm not the best sleeper).
