Castello di Vezio in the Village

Staying at Castello di Vezio in the Village was a very different experience from staying in a conventional hotel, and that was a large part of its charm. We stayed in a beautiful village house that felt warm, authentic, and extremely cozy. It is not a modern luxury hotel room; it feels more like visiting a relative who lives in a lovely mountain village, with dark wooden furniture, traditional decor, and plenty of character. Despite the rustic atmosphere, the house had everything we could need, including air conditioning, a washing machine, and all the practical amenities required for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was modest in size but excellent in quality. It is enough to start the day without leaving hungry, although it should not be expected to serve as the main meal of the day. The staff were wonderful, particularly the reception team, who were friendly, helpful, and excellent throughout our stay. The entire setting is peaceful, distinctive, and memorable. It offers a much more authentic experience than a standard hotel and is a wonderful place for travelers looking for something with character. The views from the hotel are also amazing.

The most important thing to understand before booking is the location. The property is situated high above Varenna, and the climb should not be underestimated. Walking up or down can be enjoyable once or twice as part of the experience, but it is not necessarily something most guests will want to do repeatedly, particularly during hot weather. After that, guests will probably rely on the hotel’s transportation service, which has an additional cost and must be arranged in advance. For the return journey, especially after hours, there is also a surprisingly good municipal transportation service using small vans. Once we understood how everything worked, transportation was manageable, but it requires some planning. The restaurant service was efficient and professional, although it felt more reserved and formal than the warm, expressive Italian hospitality we had expected. Overall, most of the things that initially surprised us were not really faults with the property. They were mainly the result of our own expectations, limited research before arriving, and some cultural differences. With the right expectations, this is a unique and excellent place to stay.

The views from the central space at the hotel is incredible and the hotel provides a free pass to the castle which we recommend viewing. Our rooms (Casa Leo) had no view and almost felt like a cave but having laundry was so very helpful as we were 2 weeks into our month long travel. The staff at the restaurant were borderline rude. We did not understand why the pool closed so early at 7pm If walking is an issue for you, do not book here. It is a strenuous .3km walk straight up the hill to the hotel. We actually loved these hikes, however! The hotel will provide a shuttle at Che k in and check out only.

Есть шаттл до города, который работает до 00:00 часов. Мы пришли 23:50 и его не было, нам пришлось идти в гору ночью . Администрация никак не отреагировала, только пожелала доброй ночи на дороге!

Maisemat olivat mahtavat! Ihmisten vähyys oli myös ihana. Majoitus oli sympaattinen ja ihana koira!

Kulkeminen haastavaa, taksia ei saatu tilattua etukäteen. Lyhyestä kyydistä jouduimme maksamaan 25€ per suunta, mikä tuntui kohtuuttomalta. Henkilökunta vähän epäystävällisiä ja ravintolan hinta-laatusuhde ei kohdannut. Aamiainen ei kuulunut hintaan.
