No air con was an issue during our stay during a heatwave

Stunning location, easy to find and an easy walk into the village or a 5 min drive to Brunnen. Friendly reception and decent sized room. Good cafe and nice restaurant views over the lake. Quiet in the evening and although the room was basic (no fridge) it was clean and comfy beds.

It was expensive for what you get. The room is basic, no fridge or kettle although there was one in the main corridor. The cleaner hoovers the floor outside the room at 7.30am every day!! Last day they also polished the floor at 8am so don’t expect a lie in. The restaurant lady was incredibly rude and unwelcoming. I showed her my allergen card and she dismissed me. I had to ask what was gluten free and she begrudgingly showed me the cereal jar. My husband found a ciabatta packet but it said it needed baking for 20mins so I took it to her and asked if she could cook it for me (showed her the instructions). She replied gruffly in German it was already cooked. It clearly wasn’t. She was so rude and unhelpful I felt belittled and like I was back at school. Another lady came over and I tried to explain. The restaurant lady brought over the ciabatta which had clearly been microwaved as the packet had shrivelled. It was a horrible unwelcoming experience which doesn’t fit the Mattli ethos. Personally, although it’s a lovely location and the reception staff were lovely, I wouldn’t go back.

Soy yogurt and margarine at breakfast but not too much other vegan options. I ordered twin room with separate beds but got a doubled bed. Anyway, it was big bed and separate blankets so it was fine. There was a somewhat not fresh smell in the room but we could open the door to balcony.

Difficult to rate our stay with just multiple choice as there were good points but several issues that spoilt the stay which I have put in the next section. The room was lovely and the view amazing. Breakfast was very good as was the distance from the town, where there was a supermarket and several restaurant's.

As the weather was unbelievably hot, air conditioning is needed in this hotel. The main issue however was that it is predominantly a SEMINAR hotel. Even though the heading states it is Bed & Breakfast. There are only a few words well into the description that even mention it has a business facility when it is clearly that is the main part of the hotel. When we stayed there were several seminars taking place which created restrictions for HOLIDAY guests. There was a beautiful terrace HOWEVER on the four nights we stayed we were not allowed to use it once due to function's taking place. The functions created other problems NOISE, VERY NOISY therefore we could not open our windows due to the excessive noise coming from the terrace - this spoilt the quit ambience we were told the hotel had. Although most night it did not go on until after 10, it still spoilt our stay. And as it was 30 degrees opening windows was necessary. These restrictions affects the value for money as we could not use facilities we were paying for. We did raise the issue with the manager both at the hotel and by email when we got home but feel he was dismissive of our issues. There were other issues but as these we hope were one offs haven't listed them. If you are wanting a quiet stay this may not be the place for you - that's a shame as the setting is lovely.
