Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Merrillville by IHG

I loved the room! It was cozy for myself, my husband, and our three children.

Unfortunately, our room wasn't cleaned during our stay. A note was left at our door that they weren't able to clean our room (no fault of ours).

The atmosphere and professionalism

The location was very convenient. The motel was very quiet which we appreciated. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Only one of us was awake in time to enjoy breakfast, but he said it was very good.

Price & one broken elevator making trips up & down take forever

Honestly, my husband and I booked a hotel in a different city a few months prior to when we needed it... After looking at reviews for that other hotel I decided it was wise to book somewhere else. So we landed here! They were able to book us a room last minute with a king sized bed, chaise lounge chair, a large bathroom, desk, floor length mirror, coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, and lots of closet space (if you would need to use it, which we did not, it was just worth noting haha). The staff was super helpful and friendly and made us feel at home. They went so far as to help us with dinner recommendations since we had never been anywhere near this hotel. There was no smoking or anything weird allowed in our particular room which was so nice, and I could tell that they cared about the cleanliness of the rooms. I ALWAYS check for bedbugs and other unwelcome pests in hotel rooms, and I am happy to report that there were ZERO signs of any sort of bug: ants, bedbugs, flea, etc. The complimentary breakfast was quite delicious and even though we got down to the diner late, the food was still fresh. They offered bacon, cheese omelets, turkey sausage, pancakes, muffins, danish, bagels, toast, breakfast potato cubes, several different options of juices, yogurt, and milks in a small fridge. They also offered a full hot tea bar, and a hot coffee bar. The dining area was very comfortable and welcoming, and the News was on softly in the background. The parking area was kind of small for a hotel, but just large enough to have plenty of space between us and the next car. The hallways were very tidy and smelled clean. The elevators work well and you could barely tell when you went from level to level, it was so smooth! Overall a very nice experience at the Holiday Inn Express!

The only two things we didn't like, but are easy fixes were that the AC /fan unit in the room seemed to work fine BUT there was this very annoying noise that occurred at the most random times, so it was hard to fall asleep without it making a "pattern noise". If you like sleeping with no noise at all, you won't have to worry about it, but if you have struggles sleeping WITHOUT one, maybe bring a white-noise maker with you just in case. The second thing was that the bed was comfortable, but the PILLOWS were not so much... They are labeled on the end of the pillow case if they're "soft" or "firm" but they all seemed firm to me. Again, if these sound like they'd bug you, may want bring your own fan and pillows. Otherwise, no complaints!

It was a little out of our way but it was doable

With exception of room service NOT servicing our room or leaving amenities while we were gone (a lot- e.g., coffee, clean towels, etc.), we thought the facility was outstanding including one of the better continental breakfasts we have had as world travelers. Front desk staff very nice and very friendly as well as helpful.
