About this apartment rental

Our 1928 carriage house apartment is situated in historic Beach Hill. It has been recently renovated, yet much of the original charm has been maintained. It is a perfect spot for families or small groups - close to many tourist spots yet located in a residential neighborhood.
Cowell's Beach (boogie boarding and surfing), Steamer's Lane (advanced surfing), Monterey Exploration Center, Boardwalk, wharf, Warriors basketball stadium, downtown, and West Cliff Drive (bike/walking path along the ocean) are all a quick 5 minute walk from our house.
The apartment is located in a private garden setting, away from the main street, behind our home. We hope you will love this historical neighborhood as much as we do!

We added this to the end of our Yosemite adventure as a little R&R before heading home, and thought the kids would love some beach time. This place exceeded expectations! The carriage house is very clean and has so many nice little touches. This place is perfect for kids- ours really loved the boogie boards at the beach and the games when we were relaxing. It’s a nice, short walk to the beach and boardwalk area. The beds are very comfortable, and the temperature was perfect for opening a window at night. The owner is very kind and accommodating. This is definitely a place I would return, but spend a whole week next time.

The property was well kept, stocked with everything we needed (and more), and was quiet, safe and secure. The owners were friendly and helpful. Only a short walk into downtown and to the boardwalk. We all had a great time!

The apartment was clean, nicely decorated, and well stocked. The beds were very comfortable and the shower nice and hot. They were generous with a laundry room, fire pit, and surf boards although we didn’t use any. The street parking was not a problem. There are steep stairs to the apartment but they were well lit and a good hand rail (my mother who is 83 was with me). The location near the boardwalk was great for morning walks.

Great information provide by Sarah which helped us chose where to shop, dinner, etc. the hosts were more than happy to recommend places to go to.. Property clean and well maintained. The rental is located behind the main residence. The house numbers were not present on the street and also I had not received directions how to get through the gate. Luckily, my tech savvy brother was present and able to access a Wi-Fi hotspot so I could email our dilemma to the owner who was home. she came out straight away and helped us get inside. This was our only problem. Everything else went smoothly and the rental was lovely.

The Carriage House is an absolute dream. It is a quintessential beach cottage offering a peaceful stay yet a quick walk to all the excitement and foodie heaven that Santa Cruz offers. This was our second time here and again it did not disappoint. Sarah was just as responsive and accommodating. The cottage was lovely and comfortable for our family of 4. We were couple of blocks from everything so we walked everywhere and never had to worry about parking. And our favorite part was ending our trip with a fire in the backyard and making s’mores the night before we left. This may become an annual ritual. We will be back. Thank you, Sarah!

This was the perfect place to bring our 16 year old granddaughter for a few days. The location was perfect. The apartment was nicely decorated, very comfortable, and well stocked with everything one may need. This is a wonderful, warm, inviting, two bedroom apartment in Santa Cruz. The central location enabled us to walk to several things. Hostess, Sarah, was very helpful. My grandson borrowed their surf board and happily was able to surf. This is a great place to stay. If I’m back, it’ll be here.

I highly recommend staying here. We are a family of 4 (husband, wife, two kids ages 5 & 8), and the space was plenty for us. The private backyard oasis was beautiful! Everything is within walking distance or just a few min drive into town. We had the pleasure of meeting our host and she was very kind. You cannot beat the privacy, quiet, and detail that you get here with any hotel. The small touches provided from a s’mores kit to beach toys, are appreciated as well. Thank you for letting us stay!

Sarah, the hostess was extremely helpful. The house was certainly well equipped, extremely clean and comfortable. There was beach equipment and a beach cart to enable a full day's pleasure and comfort on the beach. The outdoor space was comfortable,private and during the day a little sun trap. Lovely host. Everything was perfect. Very comfortable beds and pillows, thick cozy towels. All details attended to—snacks, teas, coffee, and even fixings for s’mores in a little basket. There were Q-tips, shampoos & a first aide kit. Easy 5-10 minute walk to the beach, warf and boardwalk. 5 min drive to downtown. Easy parking in front (April). Down pillows on the couch. The location of this property was perfect for the meeting of UCSC Alumni friends. The wharf, beach, Boardwalk, downtown and especially Kaiser Arena (where we took in 2 Bball games) are a short walk away. They have thought of everything to make your stay as homely as possible - we found the accommodation to be perfect for our small family. Sarah’s place was perfection. Amazing location only a couple of blocks away from the Santa Cruz boardwalk and wharf. The guest house is located above the garage at the rear of the property. It had two nicely sized bedrooms, a full bath and kitchen. The place was pristine, cozy, and the beds were very comfortable and everything was functional and worked as intended. Sarah had left coffee, wine, chocolates and other goodies for us during our stay, which was unexpected, but very much appreciated. There’s access to an outdoor yard and fire pit which is really nice. Street parking was really easy, particularly with the permits that were provided. Sarah was very communicative and reached out to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We stayed for two nights (07/25/22-07/27/22) at this location and it was perfect for myself, my husband and two teen girls. We went to the Boardwalk and beach both days we were in town and it was so nice to be able to walk the two blocks and not have to worry about driving. Easy directions to check in and out were provided along with lots of restaurant and activity suggestions. We were also pleasantly surprised with cupcakes and candles to celebrate my husband and daughters birthdays. Such a nice touch. We would stay here again 100% and will be recommending this space to our family and friends.

What a great find! Sarah's attention to detail and level of cleanliness went above and beyond. My twins (age 11) loved the desk and side table filled with books and games, and the stuffed animals on their beds made them feel at home. The adults appreciated the charming details the carriage house provided, from the antique doorknobs to cute little cubbies in the bathroom (along with a first aid kit, extra toothbrush, and sunscreen to mention a few) and beautiful landscaping in the yard. There was plenty of room for four people, and the location was perfect being only a short walk to the boardwalk and local restaurants, shops, etc. On our way out to the beach one day, we were able to meet Sarah in person and she was very friendly and helpful, making us feel welcomed. Thanks again for the lovely setup and look forward to staying again!
