Alston itself is a very quiet and remote place, its nestled in between other tiny villages and surrounded by moors. Surprisingly it has all you need in terms of shops and cafes in the day time and is peaceful at night. The house is lovely and spacious and the master bedroom overlooks a gothic church. The house has all the facilities you would need as a family, the parking is ample for a large estate car. The hosts can be reached quickly and they are polite and helpful. The locals are very warm and welcoming, make sure you say hello to the neighbours if you walk by them, it took me a while to adjust to the friendly people as coming from the London area i rarely look up from my feet but it's great to be in a place with a friendly vibe.

Great location near the centre of the village. Within easy walking distance of the river, waterfall and railway attraction.

Hosts are very helpful and friendly, and the cottage is beautifully decorated. Clearly a lot of thought and creativity went into finding furniture, furnishings, decorations, building materials and paint. Alston is a great little town full of tiny stylish shops full of all kinds of amazing stuff. Both accomodation and town are highly recommended!

Lovely location among the stone cottages of the old town. Two mins walk from shops and overlooking the church. Spotlessly clean and warm. Host very friendly and helpful with local info. Great center for a walking holiday.

This was our second visit to Sowerberry apartment. Really lovely place to stay, friendly hosts, warm, comfy beds and with everything we needed. Alston is a nice place to be. Less walking this time but nice cafes and pubs nearby to walk to. 30 mins from Hadrian’s wall and easily doable to Carlisle and Newcastle which was fab. Thanks Sonia and Peter

Actual 2 bedroom apartment /house very good with a nice view from balcony.
Beds nice and comfortable and everything needed for our stay was on hand.
The entrance /porch is next to the bathroom so a blind on the front door would perhaps be a good idea so anyone visiting ie the postman doesnt get an eyeful.
Its probably covid related but having to strip all beds and get rid of our rubbish at the end of our stay I dont agree with .( we are on holiday after all ).
Alston itself is starting to look a little tired and run down . Businesses are closing and are only open open for limited hours.

Quiet area.
The only difficulty was the parking space. It was tight to get into if you have a larger car.

Sonia and Peter were lovely hosts. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in Sowerberry for two weeks in June 2021. Even with the Covid-19 adjustments we found we had everything we needed for our holiday with our 11 month old son. Usually I like to avoid emails etc on holiday but I'm in the middle of job hunting so having wifi was very useful. The apartment, although connected to the one next door, was very quiet. We never heard any of the other guests next door. We really enjoyed eating dinner on the balcony on an evening and looking out over the moors. Alston itself is a lovely town. The community is so friendly and we really enjoyed chatting to residents while we were out and about. The area is great for cycling and hiking and we would love to visit again in future.
This problem is very specific to our family at the moment - glass tables and wood floors are a hazard to an 11 month old who's eager to pull up on furniture.

Amazing cottage, excellent location. Fantastic living room with balcony looking on to the old church. Very peaceful. Great base to explore surrounding area.
Perhaps an update for the bathroom

The apartment is exceptionally well furnished, is very clean, and is located in an historic part of Alston. The owners are most pleasant and helpful. Alston is well placed to visit places of interest the the whole of the area.
Generally no 'dislikes' at all. The only slight problem for us was the narrow streets for access and parking-our fault as our car is a little 'oversized'.

We stayed in Millstream, which is a very nice apartment. It is well presented, decorated well, and equipped with everything you could need, including adequate bedding, cutlery, plates, glasses, cookware etc. We were running late due to car troubles, and it was not a problem for the host, who happily met us outside with the keys when we arrived. Everything worked - the TV, the oven, the washing machine etc. The bed was enormous, and very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of the country.
