Old Tower Guesthouse - kafe ushguli

I liked the location, very well situated. Maria was also super friendly and professional. She was the only guesthouse the whole check who when I got there immediately presented herself with her name and asked for mine, and actually checked for my booking in the system. She was very helpful organizing activities (ex: horse riding) as well, and her husband and her actually gave me and other guests a ride to Mestia which was incredibly helpful for us, and extremely kind of them. The facility is good and the room comfy.

It is true that the baseboards are quite noisy when people walk past to go to the bathroom for example. This didn’t bother me - just thought it would be good to mention for someone who this may bother.

The house was very cozy. The owners are the nicest people ever and make some very good dinner and breakfast. Homemade chacha as well!

The bathroom was a bit eh, but what do you expect you are in the mountains!

A great central location. Our hostess made us a great Svan breakfast and we had a great chat. During this stay, I had multiple problems which were my own fault, and she went out of her way to help us out. This includes, arriving late in the evening and having no cell service to let her know ahead of time, running out of cash and not knowing how to pay for our stay, and having to leave with our rental car very early in the morning despite there being extremely muddy road construction blocking our exit—this one was serious because she actually got her husband who was a part of the project, as well as the other villagers, to lay down for us a temporary wooden driveway across the mud and help us guide our car up the narrow streets all the way to the end in order to get out. They could have just said sorry, you have to wait until later in the morning or afternoon, but they all went above and beyond to accommodate us. Pretty tremendous.

The only thing was that we had to walk outside on the balcony in order to get to the bathroom which is just uncomfortable when it’s cold. Really not that big a deal though unless it’s winter. It was October for us.

Compared to other (we went to another place in Usguhli, the day after) this was too expensive for what we got. People were friendly, servicing well etc, but everything should be in the correct balance.
