Modo - Stay Your Way

Modo Stay Your Way offers reasonably priced accommodation in the historic centre of Palermo. At around €90 per night for a double room with a private bathroom and access to a shared kitchen, it represents good value for such a central location.

However, prospective guests should be aware of the extreme nighttime noise in the surrounding streets. Throughout our stay, including weekdays, there was loud music, shouting, conversations, arguments, laughter and the sound of breaking glass, often continuing until 3 or 4 a.m., sometimes even 5 a.m. In addition, numerous cars drove through the neighbourhood at all hours with extraordinarily powerful sound systems, producing bass vibrations strong enough to shake the building. Our sleep was repeatedly interrupted. To be fair to the property, the windows provide good sound insulation when fully closed. Unfortunately, keeping them closed for extended periods makes the room very stuffy because of insufficient ventilation. Guests are therefore faced with an uncomfortable choice between fresh air and a reasonable night’s sleep. We mentioned the ventilation issue to the owner, who listened to our concerns, although we don’t know whether any improvements are planned. Overall, the accommodation offers good value in a convenient central location, but the nighttime environment is a significant drawback. We would particularly caution light sleepers and anyone who needs fresh air at night. Better ventilation would make a considerable difference to guests’ comfort.
