A Week in Tả Van I thought I came here for the view. The rice terraces, the mountains, the cool air, the kind of scenery you normally just stop for, take a photo of, and move on. But staying in Tả Van for a week changed the experience completely. After a while, the terraces stopped feeling like a tourist attraction. They became part of everyday life around me. I saw people harvesting rice, carrying sacks along the road, working under the sun, preparing food, sewing, riding motorbikes up and down the mountain, and simply going about their day. I was lucky enough to arrive during harvest season, so I got to see the landscape at one of its most beautiful stages. But more importantly, I got to understand a little better what goes into creating that landscape in the first place. I even ended up helping in the rice fields. And by helping, I mean I tried. Hahaha. I rented a motorbike and spent most days just moving around without much of a schedule. Sometimes I would stop because the view was good. Sometimes because I saw something interesting happening. Sometimes I had absolutely no idea where I was going. Those random stops became some of the best parts of the trip. I met women from the local community, rode around with them, sat with them while they worked, visited their homes, ate meals with their families and somehow managed to have conversations even when we barely shared a language. There was a lot of pointing, laughing, Google Translate and guessing. But somehow, it worked. And those moments stayed with me more than any viewpoint or attraction did. There were also days when almost nothing happened, and I loved those too. Coffee overlooking the rice fields. Waking up with mountains outside the window. Sitting somewhere for an hour without feeling the need to leave. Watching the afternoon light change the color of the terraces. Looking up at a sky full of stars at night. No itinerary. No pressure to maximize the day. Just being there.

The heart of the place is the host May and her family. They are very welcoming and May really treated me like a mother. I had the most wonderful stay in Vietnam and would recommend this place 100%! The view from the room is stunning and the food incredible. They serve food that they grow on their farm. I would also recommend to do the full day trekking. Thank you very much for everything. This was not just an accomodation, I felt like being part of the family!
