Battery Lodge

Fantastic location with stunning views. The host, Martin, cooked a very good breakfast for us, My wife is gluten intolerant, this was not a problem and Martin cooked her a great breakfast each morning. We had a very welcome arrival and were offered a very generous welcome drink which we very much appreciated. We would definitely recommend Battery Lodge to anyone visiting the island.

The area has a limited choice of restaurants which close quite early and get busy at dinner time, we recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

I loved how close the property was to the ferry landing, and the fact that it overlooked the sea. It was also within walking distance of everything I needed, including the amazing coffee at Press Coffee. It was right next to the castle and just a short walk from the bars and restaurants, which made it a really convenient location. I also loved how quirky and characterful the property was, with lots of lovely vintage touches throughout. From the outside, it looked like a beautiful, big Tudor house, and it had a really cute garden. The views from my room were absolutely incredible, too. The hosts were also absolutely amazing. They were so friendly and welcoming and really made me feel at home during my stay. They made an incredible breakfast every morning, which was such a lovely way to start the day. The dining room is also really cute and cosy, with incredible views overlooking the sea and mountains. It was such a beautiful setting for breakfast and added to the overall charm and character of the property.

There’s honestly nothing I didn’t like about the property itself. The only issue I had was very specific to me, as I’m allergic to dogs and unfortunately my allergy can cause an asthmatic reaction. When I arrived, there didn’t seem to be anyone around initially, and the first person to greet me was this gorgeous, very happy dog! For most people, a friendly dog coming over to say hello would probably be an absolute dream. I love dogs too, so if I could touch them, it would have been lovely. Unfortunately, because of my allergy, I can’t have that kind of contact, and the dog was rubbing up against me to say hello, which unfortunately triggered an asthmatic reaction. As I didn’t have any heavy-duty antihistamines with me and there weren’t any pharmacies open at the time, I ended up paying to stay at a different hotel for one night. It was a real shame because it put a bit of a dampener on my first night. Thankfully, the pharmacy wasn’t too far away, so I was able to get stronger antihistamines the following morning, and I also had my inhaler with me. I want to stress that this isn’t something I didn’t like about the property — it’s very specific to my own allergy, and for another guest, having such a lovely, friendly dog there would probably be a huge positive. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t great for me personally. The only other small thing was that I didn’t receive a Wi-Fi code when I arrived, so I didn’t have Wi-Fi initially. However, I completely forgot to ask about it at breakfast, so that was partly on me!

The property was nicely located over looking the harbour. It was well laid out. My bedroom was very spacious. The breakfast was very tasty. The host was very welcoming.

When I select parking whilst searching for a property I expect onsite parking - this wasn't. Street parking could be at a premium in peak tourist season.

Location was a 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal. The lodge was very easy to find. Big enough sign outside so I didn't miss it. Check in was really easy and shown to room and everything was explained. I was ASKED not told when I would like breakfast then next day. Really loved that. Room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Room was quiet, being at the back of the hotel. Next morning. Breakfast was perfect. Hot and very very tasty. All in all a very welcome and reasonably priced break was had by myself. Genial hosts and I would definitely recommend the breakfast 'salad' as someone else called it

Weather could have been a bit nicer :-D But that's not the hosts fault. Otherwise nothing
