Affordability and allowance of dogs
Being charged extra for the dogs. Not as advertised. Bathrooms were in disrepair and hotel not well managed

Large and comfortable room and shower room. Heating good and TV on wall screen. No breakfast available.
Sadly there was no food at all available, not even breakfast. Apparently the hotel was closed for the season but this was not clear when I booked. No telephone in the room nor safety instructions. No decaf coffee available.

The property was gorgeous! Room was well equipped and the staff were so friendly. We were visiting my little brother in Dunoon and the room was perfect for what we needed. The staff were so friendly and helpful and beds were comfortable. Whole place was spotless.
Gorgeous views , great service and spotlessly clean

Paid for breakfast but didn’t have, the families I travelled with did have breakfast & not one of them enjoyed it, poached eggs floating in water, toast soaking, covered in garnish, that’s just one complaint, there were loads more, food didn’t match price expectations. Breakfast is served tween 8-9.30, I got there at 9.35 & couldn’t have, glad I didn’t when I heard the complaints from my family members. Food!!

The outside of the hotel was nice. The room we got was a family which was big and I liked that.
The bed was comfortable and enough lamp lights.
Firstly, the cup's were not washed I had to get clean tea cups from them. Did not have any teaspoons with them. The next door room was noisy they had the TV loud until 3am.
Also, could do better in the breakfast area.

Beautiful building with plenty of history; really imposing. The whole place is worn around the edges but it's a bit like sinking into a comfy pair of old slippers. Great staff, amazing views, nice and big room. Good wifi too. Superb value, parking onsite.
The restaurant wasn't great - just food in the bar, but it was edible, hot, and there.

I would give this 100% rating 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The only issue I had was the stairs but I knew about them before I booked. I would of been ok if I didn’t become unwell and have a severe breakdown with my osteoarthritis

Location is perfect 👍
Staff are super friendly and helpful.
Booked a family room with a Double bed and single bed. Very comfortable and cosy. There was still plenty of floor room and the bathroom was also very spacious and clean. We were on the third floor and lucky to have a fabulous sea view which was stunning. 2nd time staying here and Look forward to my next visit.
Nothing I didn't like

I loved this hotel. I used it back in April, so booked it again because of the room, cleanliness, service etc. The hotel is a beautiful old building, and it has been very sympathetically updated, not too 21st century! It is situated directly across from the Western Ferries port.
The rooms are clean and well looked after. I had requested the same one as in my previous visit, which I was happily granted and my friends were in various other configured rooms. The views of the sea were beautiful.
Everyone was very impressed with the overall hotel, cleanliness, service, staff, views etc.
The cooked breakfast was beautiful, but we only managed dien for it the first day as we were there for Doon The Watter Revival and were shattered come day 2. I am allergic to cows milk, so I asked if they had any oatmilk. Unfortunately, they didn't, but Richard, the manager, said if I'd mentioned that on booking, they would have got some in for sure. I had taken some with me and just went to the room to get it. I can't hold that against them because they did everything they could to please.
They were even happy to keep the bar open and keep serving us on the last night when we came back.
My companions have said they will be using this hotel time and time again when in Dunoon, as will I.
I had no issues, but if I had to make a suggestion, it would be to have breakfast on for another hour. We're on a break, so with having very late nights, we would've loved to have had breakfast, but couldn't get up so early. 🤣

This was a flying visit so I can only comment on the rooms, which were very well appointed and a surprise as I didn't expect them to be so contemporary, based on what the exterior of the hotel looks like.

Tired old hotel. Stayed two nights. didn't see any staff other than the male on reception who was helpful and very pleasant. Room 12 was adequate, spacious and clean. We would have used the bar if it was more inviting and open later, but it was empty of customers when we looked in and it was closed on our return after 9pm. It was not appealing - 1st impression is poor due to the broken glass panel on the entrance door; This Hotel has seen its day. We won't stay again.

The property has an old charm and historical feel. The room we stayed in was spacious and light. The host was amazing go’s above and beyond to help. The views from some of the property overlooks the water.

The hotel is old and has lots of character. Our room was spacious, had an amazing view of the hills and was very clean. The staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately we never got around to visiting the bar / restaurant so can’t comment on that.

The staff were lovely.
Cooked Breakfast was good.
Very accommodating when we arrived to help with my father’s disabilities.
This hotel has SO much potential but it’s tired… very tired.
Admittedly, we had a dog and so could have had a room that wasn’t their best.
We had a family room which had no wardrobe… and so we couldn’t unpack and hang up things. There was however a few hangers on the back of the door.
If you book a family room please make sure that if you have small children you ensure that the kettle is up high as the room that we had, the kettle was on a very low table which a child could very easily reach.
On arrival, we were advised that the restaurant wasn’t open due to illness but hoped it would be open the next evening.
Breakfast the next morning was good. We hadn’t booked it but was told we could go along if we wanted it. The cooked brekkie was good.
We headed out for the day after brekkie and when we came back there were no hotel staff anywhere but a sign with a number to call was left on the reception desk. The restaurant wasn’t open and so we decided to come for a drink at the bar instead… alas that was also shut for the afternoon/night. It would have been nice for the Manager to have called and advised us that they were shutting up shop for the afternoon/evening.
The next morning we thought we’d grab some brekkie before heading home but again there was no staff and no breakfast. I did call the number but nobody answered, I left a message and asked for someone to call to explain. I have yet to hear from someone.

The hotel itself is a bit dated and in need of tlc, having said that, it IS an old, old building. Free parking on the grounds is plentiful. It is directly across from the car ferry port.
On arrival, I was greeted by Pam, she was really so lovely, friendly and helpful. The hotel wasn't busy so she had upgraded my room to a far bigger room with a beautiful view of the sea. Pam was so efficient, and couldn't do enough to make my stay as comfortable a she could. I was there to escape for a few days of 'me time' after the most stressful start to the year for me.
My room was spotless, the bathroom was huge and there was a beautiful big roll-top bath as well as a separate shower cubicle. My bed (a very long 4 poster)was comfortable and again very clean. There was also a corner sofa facing the TV which had Netflix and plenty of other channels to watch at night.
The hotel was so quiet with a beautiful setting.
One thing to look out for is that although it says on this site that there is no breakfast option, there actually is and it's very nice too, so maybe contact the hotel direct for that.
Many thanks to Pam for her communication before my arrival, she got back to me really fast.
I will return.
The only thing that was lacking was a couple of maintenance problems e.g missing secondary glazing in the bathroom which made it very draughty. This didn't affect my stay.

Hotel was a bit dated and could do with some upgrading.

Beautiful room with very traditional Scottish vibes. The building itself is gorgeous, and conveniently situated right next to the ferry terminal. The bar staff were incredibly friendly and all employees were very helpful.
The room I was in was clearly newly refurbished, and the bathroom still seemed a little basic. The room was leaking a little too, not a lot, just a little drip in the corner of my room - no trouble to me but it was a little off-putting.

The breakfast was limited but good, full traditional Scottish.
The hotel was chilly at times, the C heating was not working. Heaters were however supplied and rooms were warm with them on.
