    I stayed at the Langford for a few nights this week while visiting my partner, who lives nearby. First impressions weren't great. The exterior looks tired and dated, which is a shame, because the location is excellent and the beach is only a stone's throw away. Check-in was straightforward, though the receptionist didn't get up from his wheeled chair to greet me. On the way to my first floor room the lack of cleaning was obvious straight away: large black stains on the stair carpet. It's a beautiful old building, but the repairs and maintenance have been done appallingly. The bottom of one landing window has rotted away and been packed with filler, then painted over, with overpaint left all around the frame. Elsewhere it looks as though mastic or caulk has been used to stick everything to the walls, applied so badly that the creases left behind have filled with dirt. The bedroom itself was reasonably clean and comfortable, although the discarded balloon next to the bed was a bit disconcerting. The bathroom was another story. It doesn't look as though it has been properly cleaned in months. Scum around the bath and taps, and an unidentifiable blob of black goo on the splash guard, which is filthy in its own right. I knew my partner wouldn't set foot in it in that state, so I cleaned it myself. Paying guests shouldn't be doing the housekeeping. The bathroom door had to be forced shut, and when I opened it again the front panel caught on the frame and pulled off. None of this is acceptable at any price. One positive: they don't serve breakfast. 🤢

    A few steps from a magical beach. Big and comfy rooms. This is not a 5-star place though so do not have very high expectations. If you're an extra hygiene-sensitive person, this place may not be for you.

    The room was not properly cleaned and was extremely unhygienic. There were several dead flies left on the staircase windows. The bathroom was particularly disgusting, with numerous brown stains. The fact that the stains came off simply by wiping them with toilet paper is clear evidence that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. The toilet would not flush, and the bathtub was also dirty and covered with brown stains. The Wi-Fi did not work either. These are issues that should normally be repaired before the room is made available to guests. Management should seriously consider taking action to improve the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall condition of the property.
