THE RIVERHOUSE AT RIVER ESTATE
After welcoming guests to River Estate for more than thirty years, I've noticed something. Many people arrive with an ambitious list of places they hope to see, yet by the end of their stay they often tell me that some of their favorite vacation memories were made right here.
The Riverhouse is tucked into a quiet tropical river valley on two private acres where towering emerald mountains, lush botanical gardens, and the gentle flow of the Wainiha River create a setting that seems to slow time. Mornings begin with birdsong, afternoons drift by on the riverside lanai, and before long you begin to understand why so many guests say some of their favorite vacation memories were made not while rushing from place to place, but simply by relaxing at River Estate.
Families and friends naturally gather here, while couples often tell me they love having the entire estate to themselves. The luxury isn't found in crowds or schedules. It's found in space, privacy, and the freedom to spend your days exactly as you choose.
One of River Estate's most memorable experiences begins just outside your door. Launch a kayak or paddleboard easily from the riverbank and enjoy a leisurely paddle downstream to a secluded beach just two blocks away—one that remains largely undiscovered because there is no public parking. I can arrange for rented paddle boards, kayaks and bicycles to be delivered to the house and be waiting for your arrival as well as consult with you and book all the best activities at a discount. Bring a picnic, walk the shoreline, watch the surf, then enjoy a peaceful paddle back through the calm waters of the Wainiha River to your own private sanctuary. Authentic 1930s Hawaiian artwork, beautifully restored 1930s curly maple hardwood furniture in the primary suite, quality Persian rugs throughout the bedrooms and dining room, and carefully selected furnishings create a home that feels welcoming rather than formal. Perfectly located between Hanalei and Hāʻena State Park, River Estate offers convenient access to world-famous beaches, hiking trails, snorkeling, restaurants, farmers markets, and scenic drives while remaining peacefully removed from the crowds. I've called Kauaʻi home for more than fifty years and have had the privilege of welcoming guests to River Estate for over three decades. One of the greatest pleasures of hosting is helping visitors discover the island beyond the guidebooks—the hidden beaches, favorite local restaurants, scenic drives, hikes, and quiet places that have made me fall in love with Kauaʻi over the years. Mark is the consummate host -ready and willing not only to help with your stay at Riverhouse, but also to help with your arrangements for activities in the area. We LOVED what we called our “treehouse” as the view out the windows was of beautiful green trees, plants, colorful flowers, etc. We found all things we needed in the kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms. Clean, soft linens on the comfortable beds. For those who haven’t been to Hawaii in recent years, bring ear plugs for night sleeping as the roosters all over the island are avid crowers! In other respects, this couldn’t be a more peaceful place to be.

The house was wonderful - kitchen was super clean and fully prepared for all of our cooking. Bedrooms had individual mini splits for AC - the grounds were well maintained, and the provided beach chairs and boogie board were a lot of fun.

The house was very nice, very clean, just as listing shows. Well equipped kitchen, beautiful grounds and a lovely view of the river. Mark was helpful and very easy to communicate with.

The house was beautiful and wonderfully located. Our stay coincided with a very large storm and our host, Mark, was in constant communication and kept us updated. We like to cook and found the kitchen well stocked for our needs.We are looking forward to visiting again in summer months.
