I will start with the positives. The room is HUGE. The bed is super comfortable, the aircon works really well and the shower gets super hot. They organised a tour to Polonnaruwa for me for a really decent price and it was a fantastic day. If I was rating the homestay based on this alone I would give it 10*. It is close to the lions rock, walking distance and breakfasts were different and varied each day. The husband and wife who seem to run this are extremely friendly and kind.

Our first night here one of their family members was working in the restaurant. I don’t know if he was drunk or what but he was obnoxiously loud, yelling at us for ages quite incoherently. When we first arrived we sat down to eat as we were starving and he basically told us not to eat there because there were lots of other restaurants to try and ushered us out which was super weird, and annoying as we’d been travelling and were ravenous and just wanted to eat. When we came back that evening, he then TOLD us what we were having, said their rice and curry is what they are famous for. We said ok then, guess we will have vegetable. When they bought the food out it was rice, three salads and one curry. They bought out another curry but it was chicken so we sent it back. It was the worst rice and curry I’ve had in Sri Lanka due to there being not really any curry. Anyway, the guy was yelling at us about stuff, wouldn’t leave us alone we felt quite uncomfortable and then he spotted another customer. Went up to him to tell him he was eating his rice and curry wrong. Then he GRABBED the man’s food with his own hands to demonstrate and then ATE the poor customers food. With his hands. Disgusting. Then at check out we were over charged. My booking said 48 dollars. There’s said more. They sent me a screen shot they added like 7 dollars in commission but my booking never stated that? And I’ve never had a booking.com booking that added comission. They tried to charge us more for the food, having it at 1500 each not 1350, he saw me looking at the menu and refunded 150, but he should have refunded 300? Then he said we did a sunrise tour with them and tried to add 2000 but I said no we did not do that. As I said, this homestay on its own is 10/10 but the restaurant staff experience and the guy yelling at us and eating someone’s food made the experience weird for us and we felt a bit uncomfortable due to this.

The owner is very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and quiet. We got watermelon juice for welcome drinks, so sweet. Price included breakfast is a plus, the size is generous.

No electrical socket for charging, maybe I fail to find one. Eventually unplug the lamp and use the socket. Not a big deal though.

Good location, very nice people who ran the property (especially the young boy he was so polite) and big clean rooms.

The bed wasn’t very comfortable, there were quite a lot of flies in our room (I think this might be from the door been left open when been cleaned), it was very noisy until about 10:30-11pm at night with people outside and there were a lot of power cuts so the rooms kept getting quite warm.
