Characterful, Cosy Dartmoor Cottage

Beautiful location, very provided with a guide for local walks (including maps) and recommended local pubs - The Teign House Inn absolutely does a great Sunday roast but worth ringing ahead to book a table as they get busy! House itself was beautiful. Lovely grounds, comfy bed, couldn’t have asked for more. Perfect for a weekend getaway with beautiful walks.

Emplacement hyper calme… idéal pour le repos et faire de la randonnée : le Dartmoor est réputé pour ses circuits. Le hameau est très retiré, mais l'environnement est splendide. Le cottage est très simple, avec du charme et correctement équipé (pas de télé, mais mon fils et moi n'apprécions pas donc…), on s'y sent bien tout de suite. Francesca, même à distance, s'est arrangée pour satisfaire un besoin : merci beaucoup ! Attention, très peu de magasins autour, il faut s'organiser, mais nous étions au courant, donc pas de surprises.

It’s a very sweet place to stay

The location was ideal for the organisation I was working at and was reasonably close to many nice costal resorts and good walking areas.

The following is no reflection of the host but is a reflection of Booking.com who misrepresent the accommodation on the website. There is no TV which was not apparent from the website. The host informed me that guests are advised to bring devices with them if they want to watch TV but this was not communicated on the website. There are also no books, boardgames or radio and so it is a pretty dismal stay at night for such a long period (we were there 9 nights). There is no freezer which on the face of it is not too bad, but the nearest supermarket is quite a drive away and so we stocked up to reduce the amount of travel to the shops. This included some frozen food as we did not know there was no freezer and as a consequence ended up having to throw some food away. What a waste!! Also, the website states that the price includes all fees and taxes and dogs go free but we were charged an additional £40 for cleaning before we even arrived at the site. The stairs which run through the centre of the cottage are very dangerous. They are open both sides, there are no hand rails at all and each rung is a single piece of wood and the gaps between are quire large. This is very dangerous for kids, dogs and people who are not steady on their feet as the stairs wobble quite a bit when you walk on them and it is quite easy to fall off either side. In addition you have to go under the stairs to get to the bathroom (which is down stairs) and so you not only have to navigate the stairs if you need the bathroom at night but also run the risk of banging your head (day or night). Be aware the waste bin in the kitchen in very small and you are asked to sort your waste for recycling etc. (which is good but cannot be done with such a small single bin), therefore, you have to keep walking up a steep hill and negotiate a bit of a trek to sort out and get rid of the waste. Not good if you are not too good on your feet.
