Lakeland Lodge 400 year old Bavarian Lodge with Private Hot Tub Pet Friendly

The Lodge is in a fantastic super quite location surrounded by beautifu large gardens all round but is close enough to the village high street where there is a Spar shop and a couple of bars & cafes. Close to Bundoran, we also travelled easily to Donegal town and Sligo. The hot tub and outside bucket shower are a great feature which our group used a lot as we were blessed with beautiful weather. The open fire with local Turf supplied was another lovely feature. Tara was a great host providing us with lots of useful local knowledge and tips She replied quickly and supplied us with new light bulbs and the forgotten bath robes as soon as we asked for them. All in all despite the few quirkes we had a lovely stay and l would book the lodge again.

Bearing in mind the age and quirkiness of the lodge there are bound to be a few issues. Until reading the information pack l didn't realise that the original building really is a 400 year old Bavarian lodge transported over to Ireland, which does explain its quirkiness! However l think it should be pointed out that both bedrooms/bathrooms are only accessible by fairly steep stairs. One room is upstairs and the second is downstairs (both sets of stairs coming off the main lounge area) so would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Having re-read the accommodation description this is not made clear. As other reviews have said the kitchen would benefit from more baking trays for those wanting to cook for themselves but otherwise the kitchen crockery/utensils are plentiful.

The property is a beautiful house with loads of character. We absolutely loved it from the moment we crossed the gate. The garden is really well looked after and the view form the house is stunning - when you sit on the terrace and listen to the nature around you, you can relax and forget the world. It is very much what you see in the add. You will also find loads of suggestions where to eat and what to do around. There was also a leaflet with the house history. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Great house with lovely character, in a really quiet location.

The kitchen had many useful items and things like salt/herbs/oil had been left which was thoughtful of previous clients; The property is clean but it didn't sparkle and we feel needs some upkeep. The fairly new hot tub seems to have been very well maintained and the beds were comfortable. The whole setting is quiet so we slept well and when heat was needed the property quickly heated up.

The place is looking tired and needs some TLC. The bathroom had a cracked sink and some of the grout should be replaced. It looked to us as if the owner had sadly lost interest/had to move back to Scotland and whilst the cleaning company was doing an acceptable job, there was no passion shown. The self cutting automatic lawnmower did an amazing job on wet grass! In essence the place sadly underwhelmed us ...
