The hosts, Pouya and Josie were super welcoming and the entire space felt really homely, clean and modern. The kitchen is well equipped, and has a good system to keep things neat and tidy, making me feel inclined to cook each day. The shared toilet was also well maintained, and I could do my laundry and dry it outside on the patio. Sitting at the patio for your meals/ listening to the birds outside was easily one of my highlights staying here. Their love for plants is evident as the house is decorated tastefully with an assortment of greens, which makes for a cosy environment. The room I got assigned to has an amazing view of the clouds and sunset - as someone who gets inspired by the space they're in, this house has been such a nourishing month long stay for me. Also!!! If you're a cat person, their adorable black cat, Jojo, is a walking purr machine, and even if you aren't a huge cat person, he'll make you fall in love for sure. :p Thank you for hosting me for the month! Would definitely book again when I'm back in the area. šŸ’–āœŒļø
The walls between each room aren't very soundproof, but everyone who lived here together were mindful of our noise levels, so it wasn't much of an issue. Just something to keep in mind! :)

Overall, a good stay with the following positives: - large, bright and spacious room with good closet space (albeit a bit hot without AC). - use of a bathtub in the shared bathroom. - relatively generous space in the kitchen pantry for any non-perishable groceries. - very clean room and reasonably clean and tidy common areas (bathroom, hallways, kitchen, dining, living rooms). - great location! It's close to a bus stop and not too far from Pak n Save Mt Albert by foot. There is also a good walkway nearby if you want some greenery and a great cafe (Young George). - overall good communication with the hosts by text/WhatsApp when Netflix wasn't working and I had a question about an extension cord.
Unfortunately, these points could use some work: - the listing seemed a bit misleading as this 4 bedroom property (at the time of my booking in Nov) was run more like a sublease flatting arrangement where the owners of the house did not live there. So you really have to hope for respectful "flatmates" who know how to behave in a shared home. Two rooms were occupied by longer-term renters and two rooms were used for short-term bookings (Booking.com, Airbnb, etc). - the person in the upstairs room (who seemed to live there longer-term and is a friend of the owners) was helpful with some things like making sure the Netflix account was working and doing some common area cleaning. However, I found their lack of awareness around others (and perhaps experience with living in a shared house) jarring. Some examples: constantly on the phone in the evenings using speakerphone loudly in the kitchen area while cooking; watching an intense religious sermon loudly in the dining area during dinnertime; playing a religious sermon/song? early in the morning while in the shower (I can't remember what time, but before 8am); I had a bath in the evening when most others were out, but this same tenant came to knock on the bathroom door... They said they didn't know someone was in there cos it was so quiet! - there were some reminder signs everywhere in the downstairs area, which I didn't mind so much, but perhaps it may be off-putting to some. My guess is there was a recent issue with people not keeping these areas clean. I would suggest the owners please print some more professional looking signs to laminate and put up with Blutac/Command strips, rather than having the hastily written (and taped up with brown packing tape) ones. The ground level is a beautiful shared space and the lack of attention to detail with these signs felt a little sad. - there weren't enough dishes for a 4 bedroom home.

In a quiet neighbourhood, walking distance to a Pak n Save, and able to bus into the city. Comfortable bed. This was cheaper than two of us sleeping in an eight-bed dorm-style room at one of the nicer hostels in Auckland. Having a private room is great value for money.
This stay is very dependent on the other guests. The hosts are not in every day to clean the shared spaces. There are no locks on the bedroom doors when you are leaving your belongings. It is very dependent on the other guests not stealing from you, as the hosts have not provided external locks on the bedrooms. We when arrived, the kitchen and bathroom did not have hand soap. We texted the host and he provided it that evening but soap is a basic thing that we should not have to ask for. There are four rooms, which means that there can be a total of eight guests staying at one time. There was not enough dishware to accommodate this number of people. For example, there was only one cereal bowl. When we arrived, the Teflon coating on the pan was coming off, and cooking on the pan produced a chemical smell that leeched into our food. Again, we made the host aware, he took away the old pans, but did not replace them by the end of our stay. This left all the guests one pot to cook everything in. The bedrooms were hot! There were fans provided in each bedroom, but no AC. This was surprising because it is such a new house. It made it very difficult to sleep at night.
