Very different from the “Classic King Room” with the description of 20 square meters in size and a king bed that we booked, we were assigned a TINY ATTIC ROOM on the 3rd floor with a queen-sized bed, a sloped ceiling, a small window and a small TV strangely hanged beneath the window that one could only watch TV from the room door. These features are different from the image and description of the room listing. The queen bed of 150cm wide is absolutely deceiving. When I complained the wrong bed size to the front desk, she said that all their king beds were “UK standard king” of 150cm wide. This is a very bad excuse. Most travellers would expect a king bed to be of at least 180cm wide. If their beds are “UK standard king” then this special feature should have been specified in the room listing for travellers’ consideration before making the booking. The front desk also asked us to change to a “feature room” and pay GBP 20 more for it. However, such feature room was even worse (on the ground floor right next to the gate access to the rear carpark and with a large glass panel but no window - like a fish tank if you open the window for some sunlight) and we did not take the suggestion. We also thought that it was unethical for the hotel to assign the worst room first then asked us to pay more money for another room. As said, the room was TINY. A tiny room with a sloped ceiling was uncomfortable and disturbing. With the sloped ceiling we could hardly stand straight at some points and got our heads bumped a few times. It was difficult to move around in such a small place. The room size was much smaller than 20 square meters when compared to the “real” king bedroom of 20 square meter at another UK hotel that we checked into after checking out The Merchant’s Hotel.

Close to Cathedral, information center and "the Stonehenge Tour" pickup point

Great location in downtown, with easy walk to bus stop, shopping, and restaurants. Cathedral and train station are within walking distance as well. Room was small and quirky, as in any old building converted to a hotel, but clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cost was quite reasonable.

The room was so small there was barely 6 inches between the bed and wall. You had to go right into the bathroom to shut the door, the toilet was jammed into a space just inside the door. Opposite our room was the laundry which was running all night. The bar opened at 6pm and shut at 10pm, not the advertised timings. Frankly the best part of the hotel was it's location. I'm not sure that this was the room that was advertised, not worth the money.
