Hikers Haven

Wir waren für 10 Tage in Hikers Heaven und haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Die Nähe zum Flughafen, der Blick auf Meer und Berge, der Pool, ... Hier kann man sich wirklich wohl fühlen. Der Minimarket nur 50m entfernt war unsere tägliche Anlaufstelle für die Brötchen zum Frühstück. Fußläufig bei der Kirche gibt es ein wunderbares kleines Restaurant, mit landestypischer Küche (Restaurante A Chave). Sollten wir noch einmal nach Madeira kommen, wäre Hikers Heaven unsere erste Wahl!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hikers Haven. It's a very nice house with much to explore. The house and surroundings have different levels, with a neat terrace on top of the roof and a beautiful view. The house has 3 bedrooms, each with their own toilet and bathroom. The living room and kitchen are spatious enough, and their is a garage to safely park the car. The house, garden and pools are very well maintained and everything is very clean. Behind the pool, their is a room with fun stuff for the pool and a washing machine and drying rack. The bathrooms had towels, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and also the kitchen was fully equiped. In the 'closet' on the roof their was everything you need to enjoy some coffee or wine upon the roof terrace. Very nice amenities. The owner was very friendly and also checked in if everything was alright and the communication was enjoyable. Ideal location for exploring the North-East side of Madeira (for us: Ponta do Sao Lourenço, Pico Ruivo, Caldeira Verde, Santana, Levada do Rei, Levada Dos Balçoes, Vereda Do Larano)

When leaving/entering the house by car, the view on the road is a bit tricky. Put a man on the lookout/open the gate and make use of the mirror to check for upcoming traffic. One of the bathrooms had a bad smell. Sometimes we had some ants in the kitchen, but we kept our food stored ant-proof.

The large outdoor space was great- beautiful views, pool and lush surroundings. The house and grounds were clean and well kept, garage was a plus. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and items needed for cooking.

The linens (towels, bedding and pillows) were very old, grey, rough and the pillows were extremely lumpy and uncomfortable, making a decent sleep tough. These items definitely need an upgrade. We had to bring blankets from the un- used third bedroom for warmth, as the coverings on the bed were very thin, and even then we were very chilly at night. One of the baths had a strong sewage smell, we kept that door closed and didn't use that bathroom.
