Homely, comfortable stay with wonderful hosts

Location is excellent - peaceful, yet close to great restaurants and fabulous scenery steps away. Hosts Ann and Brendan really do care, and go above and beyond to make you welcome and stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. There were lots of gorgeous home-made welcome treats including scones with jam, croissants, wonderful butter shortbread, fresh fruit and a jar of sweet treats! Hubby said he had the best nights sleep in a long time - we both slept really well. The property is filled with books and magazines and the kitchen is well equipped with all you could need. I can see us returning again!

Tasteful, comfortable, quirky and calm. Best location and a perfect place to relax explore and chill. Most comfortable bed we slept in on our week in Ireland and so many treats made this a gem 🤍

A hidden gem, peaceful, charming and immaculately kept. It’s even better than the photos-the perfect cottage getaway.

From the moment we stepped into the cottage, we were met with the perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort. The pictures do not do it justice. The kitchen had everything we needed (and more) with delicious home baked scones, shortbread and lemon squares packed in quaint little bags to keep everything fresh. The fridge was well stocked with drinks, fresh cream, jam and some sweet treats. The hosts had not forgotten anything. We were met with a very warm welcome from our hosts Brendan and Ann as soon as we arrived. They went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Their information pack gave us all the details we needed from local walks, transport, local restaurants and the best spots in Portaferry and beyond. Ropewalk Cottage can be located nestled in a quiet location just a few steps from the Aquarium. It’s the perfect spot to explore the village and it’s a two minute walk to the ferry which takes you to Strangford. It’s very central. We’ve already shared this gem with family and friends and we can’t wait to return. It’s the kind of cottage that makes you feel at home and makes it hard to leave. Thank you Brendan and Ann, we’ll see you very soon.

An apartment that welcomes you with a homely feel

We enjoyed having the home-from-home essentials in the room and the central location to Portaferry. We only really used the room to sleep in as we were out exploring most of the day, so didn't spend time with the books, TV or cooking facilities provided. An ideal room for a couple of days exploring the local area. We both enjoyed the garden which was in full bloom and provided a lovely colourful view from inside the apartment.

Nothing really - the room is compact and ideal for a couple of nights. I wouldn't want to spend a week or more in the room.

Absolutely perfect, so relaxing, could have stayed longer.

The cottage has everything you could possibly need. It is set a quiet area but only 2mins walk from the sea/shops. So clean, beautifully decorated and the hosts(Brendan & Ann) were lovely, very welcoming. They came down to greet us and had left a lovely welcome tray as well as goodies in the fridge. Absolutely perfect.

Fantastic Stay couldn’t have chosen better.

The property was like a 5 star hotel, very tastefully decorated, and filled with every possible item you need for a short or long stay, an extensive library of books, quality bedding, furniture, towels, toiletries, crockery, glasses and utensils, the scented reeds were amazing ( I will have to source them myself), a very generous welcome tray with bottled water and fizzy drinks in fridge., parking and location perfect and very friendly and helpful hosts.

No complaints at all, however the only downside to the stay is I now have to redecorate and install various items in my own home as I got several great ideas.

Home from home. Safe and secure location, ideally positioned as a base for travel or relaxation .

Location is fab - great walks, pubs, shop and post office, supermarket, cafes and gift shop . Gorgeous views across Strangford Loch and the slip ferry within a minute of leaving the property. The hosts, Brendan and Ann are very hospitable and couldn't do enough for us. The cottage is beautifully decorated and one of the best appointed that we've stayed in. The welcome basket was excellent and much needed after a full days travel . We loved our stay 💚

Very tastefully decorated and really comfortable. also has a lovely tranquil garden to sit in with beautiful plants. Ropewalk cottage is beautifully decorated, extremely well equipped for the perfect relaxing getaway. On our arrival there was a beautiful welcome basket full of goodies plus milk, butter, cans of drinks, fresh orange juice plus a fully equipped kitchen with everything you could need to cook any meal you choose.

I honestly can’t think of anything that I didn’t like or that I would change.
