Casa Bastione Taormina

This is a lovely house in a fantastic location, right in the heart of Taormina, just off Corso Umberto. The living area is spacious, with two large sofas and a dining table. The bedrooms are all spacious, and the rooftop terrace is a great space with a lovely view. Maddalena was a pleasure to deal with throughout—prompt, helpful and attentive.

The kitchen is small if you’re catering for eight people, but was adequate for the five of us, who took turns using it. Small things: there was no electric kettle or toaster, presumably because worktop space is limited. A gas hob kettle and the oven grill worked well. Our only negative, which we expected from previous reviews, is that the top-floor bedroom is very noisy until around 2am every night, and until 4am on Saturday. I definitely couldn’t sleep there, although my teenage daughter managed it for almost a week.

The location was central, but difficult to get a taxi to for dropping off luggage for older travellers. The patio facing the sea had stunning views day and night. There were lots of restaurants very close by. Also a fantastic bakery with great coffee with an assortment of freshly baked pastries on the premises. The staff were great. They opened early and was our go to place for breakfast.

Two of our party found the stairs to the bedrooms difficult. We were there from a Thursday through Sunday. Just adjacent is a night club or bar with loud music at night until 1 or 2 in the morning. Difficult to sleep through so bring ear plugs if you decide to book otherwise the property is excellent.
