Everybody there were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. I had breakfast which was very generous and good value at £8. I will certainly be back in the future.

Lovely short stay

Good location, staff were very nice and attentive.

There was a spider in our room but honestly they move so impossible for them to find and prevent completely, also a more countryside location so is to be expected. Not a complaint at all.

Budget-basic, but adequate.

A warm and friendly welcome. The bar staff were beyond fantastic, and the food was great. The room was in a very quiet part of the building. It was budget-basic but adequate, with tea and coffee making facilities, tv, and en-suite shower and toilet. There's a small carpark on site, but if that's full, just park on the roadside. Location wise, there are lots of wonderful local villages and towns to explore, as well as being close to Derby.

The bed/mattress was creaky, and the light switches could do with cleaning with a small stiff brush to remove the grime, and the goes for the wash basin plughole. All the light switches are next to the door, no switches, that I could see, were under/near the bed wall lights. So you had to turn the lights out by the door, then walk across the darkened room to the bed. All the electric sockets were together next to the tv and kettle on the opposite side of the room from the bed. There were no sockets near the bed for plugging in your mobile phone or clock/radio.

Very friendly welcome, lovely staff, good beer and comfortable stay

A charming location in a beautiful village, a really lovely warm welcome from the staff, all of whom looked after me very well. Superb breakfast the next day for an extra £12 which I thought was excellent value. They don’t serve food on Monday and Tuesday, but you can dial in from just eat or Deliveroo. I would be very happy to stay here again as it’s an excellent base for exploring beautiful countryside and nearby attractions such as Calke Abbey. They serve three good ales in the bar, I enjoyed a good night’s sleep because the road is actually very quiet.

Did not stay for breakfast, got called away with my work, Very quiet country village location which i enjoy being from a country background. Room was very clean staff were excellent to me, including giving me a free half of beer when i ordered my pizza.

There was no chocolate in my room as advertised, and no toilet brush in the bathroom/shower area, not very hygienic.. Thought the room could do with air fresher in it, felt abit stuffy during this hot weather, Window latch broken in room 3. I did think my pizza i ordered was no where near what i expected, Certainly not worth £17, and wasn't a hot n spicy pizza like i normally have

Great pub stay in a nice village.

Great location in a lovely area. Friendly and helpful staff. The girls working in the bar/ restaurant were top notch...... very friendly and we had an interesting time with some of the local regulars. Food was good, but a few things were off the menu, as we were eating late on a Saturday night, so that's understandable.

No breakfast was available due to staff issues, which was a pity but didn't spoil the stay.

Great location for Donington race circuit and the National Memorial Arboretum. Located in a beautiful village within easy access from the motorways. Friendly staff. Small window with little air flow and no fan so rather uncomfortable on a hot day. Food was slow to be delivered. We waited 45 minutes for breakfast despite there only being two tables to serve. Luckily we weren’t rushing off anywhere.

Friendly host. Comfy bed. Good shower. Tasty breakfast. Relaxed outside seating. Cask ales available and convenient nearby pub (Brickmakers Arms) with excellent cask ales (from Burton Bridge Brewery).

Only some minor points. :-) Kitchen is closed for dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays (the nights I stayed) and there are no other dining or food shopping options in the small village. The large wall-mounted TV screen in the room is (as far as I'm concerned) unnecessary, oversized and dominates the otherwise very comfortable room. My room (no. 3) faced onto the street and noise from occasional traffic was noticeable, especially with the windows open (in warm weather this was preferable to keeping the windows shut and getting uncomfortably warm).
