Very disappointed with our stay in Montaretto
The good:
- The apartment is nice, generally well-furnished and contains nearly everything you could reasonably need.
- The apartment was very clean
- The view from the living room and balcony are breathtaking
The not-so-good:
- During our stay, there was a festival going on in the village. This meant that for four nights straight, very loud, amplified music was blasting out of a big installation some 30m from our front door. This kept on going until 1:30 at night. Unfortunately, the host did not inform us of this event beforehand. Otherwise we could have looked for alternative accomodation
- Due to the festival, parking in the village was exremely challenging.
- The bedroom is beautiful but it is directly on the street which (strangely) is very busy with lots of loud scooters, small trucks and other vehicles coming and going. People pass right next to the windows.
- The sleeper couch is extremely uncomfortable and not suitable for adults. It was just good enough for our kids.
- There is no AC in the apartment. Neither in the living room, nor in the bedroom. This would not be a problem except ...
- ... since there is no AC, the only way to sleep at night is with the windows open. However, due to the incredibly loud environment (see earlier), this makes it impossible to sleep.
- Although we clearly communicated our time of arrival, there was noone to meet us at the apartment with the key when we arrived.
- Minor points: gas stove didn't work upon arrival but this was fixed by the host. The dishes in the cupboards were not very clean and needed to be cleaned before use.
We came to italy to get away from our busy lives for a short while, to enjoy the sea and the sunshine and to get some rest. We deliberately chose a location in a smaller village, off the beaten paths to get some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, this was completely impossible. The bedroom was not usable (extremely hot with the windows closed, extremely loud with the windows open). The couch in the living room offered no alternative since it was too uncomfortable. We tried to make the best of it but ended up leaving earlier and booking in a hotel instead because we just could not get any sleep.
