Just the best place to stay! Large room with the comfiest bed. The view from the bedroom is amazing. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

Nothing to improve on really but rather than bottled water (sparkling /still options)in rooms a large tap bottle that’s offered in the restaurant would have been better.

A delight from start to finish

The location is marvellous-quiet and atmospheric. The staff are uniformly friendly, helpful and well trained. The restaurant provided an excellent dinner menu with local ingredients and a really interesting wine list : and a large,perfectly cooked full English breakfast

A superb stay in a lovely hotel

The Assheton Arms is in a lovely location, the food and rooms are excellent and the staff especially the manager Chris were friendly and welcoming. We have been several times before - it never disappoints.

It was a lovely old building. Bar staff were very accommodating, had a light bite to eat and it was very nice.

Black mold on the shower, wall paper peeling off, dirty marks on cushions, cobwebs on light, duvet cover ripped!

Atmospheric luxury break in a glorious setting.

Beautiful setting in the middle of Downham village. Our room was in a separate cottage to the left of the pub. This had 3 other rooms and a little communal sitting room - it would be a great place to stay with a group of friends. The room, and especially the bathroom, were really spacious and it was great to have Both a shower and a bath. L'Occitane toiletries were a very welcome surprise! Breakfast was really good with a great choice of delicious things. There was such a lovely lady, with short grey hair, on the housekeeping team who was exceptionally pleasant and kind.

My friend ordered a cappuccino, rather than a pot of coffee with her breakfast. This incurred an extra charge. This seemed a little mean, and surely cost as much to administer as just letting her have that choice of drink with her breakfast would have done.

Location of property and friendliness of staff. The style of accommodation.

The bathroom is in need of cosmetic maintenance. The door didn’t close properly so it couldn’t be locked. The bathroom is damp (poor extractor) and because of that the paint is peeling. There was dried vomit on the fabric covered bed base, which I noticed because I dropped something, there was also something nasty and congealed just under the edge of the bed where I reached to get my earring.

It was a picturesque traditional small stone village which we enjoyed exploring.

The breakfast was lovely - a full cooked breakfast menu, as well as toast, cereals, juice and hot drinks.

We would have loved to have a small fridge in the room as we had some perishable food with us. We would have loved to have some fresh milk in the room for the cups of tea and coffee we made.

Wonderful place 🥰

Travelled here for 2 nights with our 2 labradors, given a lovely ground floor room in the cottage next door which had its own enclosed garden, we ate at the pub both nights and the food was faultless.. the staff we saw were lovely, welcoming and helpful, the breakfast was fabulous and the dogs were given a sausage both mornings, the room had complimentary water and coffee etc, fantastic weather and scenery / walks etc.

Wish we could have stayed longer.. absolutely fabulous 😁

Totally stunning accomodation

The bedroom was brilliant all the touches in the room water biscuits etc as great. The check in easy and a pity we were at a wedding and get more out of the stay. Breakfast was great and pub looked brilliant. Deffo look to come back

I'd love to come back.

The bathroom was lovely, the bed was comfortable and it was in a lovely location. I also liked that it was a key rather than a card to open your door and you could lock it from the inside. The breakfast was lovely. Also we had L'Octaine toiletries which is always a good sign of a good hotel.

Such a small thing but the television light was on all night. The only thing we said would make the room perfect was also having bathrobes.

Lovely peaceful stay in a beautiful village.

Lovely spacious room and bathroom. We were attending a wedding in the church 50 metres away so could not have been in a better place. Very pretty village

Breakfast was only slightly below par. No muesli/granola and the toast came lying flat on a plate so was soggy. I believe the cooked breakfast was very good.

Another stunning stay at The Assheton Arms. Third time here, complementary upgrade and the third different room we have stayed in. Another stunning room, beautiful views, spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were accommodating, friendly and with exceptional customer service. Food stunning, just cannot fair the place.

A lovely place to stay, just needs a bit of love.

The location, the staff, the food were all excellent. The hotel is in such a beautiful setting.

I knew we had booked a Cosy room,Room 8, so obviously wasn’t going to be big. The bedding, toiletries etc were all good but I was rather disappointed with the decor! It was tired and the bathroom certainly needed attention. Lots of plaster off the walls , just generally needing attention.

Location

First room (8) was near the extractor from the kitchen so we were given a room in one of the cottages. I think the previous guest had been smoking as there was noticeable smell of stale cigarettes. However once we opened the windows and back door of the cottage the smell was much less noticeable.

The shower head was completely enveloped in black slime which I had to clean off before using. It actually made me feel sick. Towels too small.

Lovely stay with minor shortcomings

The room was excellent, clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated with a wonderful view. The evening meal was good and the staff were lovely. The location is idyllic. Tea and coffee and biscuits in the room were very good but as with the toiletries the amount was skimpy with one coffee capsule and one decaff capsule, one small shampoo for two people.

Although the food at breakfast was nice the service was strange. Having booked bed and breakfast being told the cooked breakfast was ‘included in our deal’ felt a bit uncomfortable. My wife ordered fried egg mushrooms and tomato and received an egg (fine) with one mushroom and half a tomato. At least she didn’t put on weight :). There was jam and marmalade but we were not offered toast.
