Noisy, not worth the money, lack of customer expereince

Lovely room but see below re noise, delay of breakfast and lack of customer experience if you don't book directly.

Think twice about staying at the hotel. Its beautiful and great facilities but caters for weddings and parties at the expense of other guests attending. Equally, whilst the hotel advertises on booking.com (it's choice) it takes no responsibility for guest experience if you haven't booked directly. Turned up at 7pm to be told that that apologies for not phoning us but had been too busy to tell us a wedding was going on until 12pm. Our room, number 23, directly above the party with music so loud you couldn't sleep. All communal areas of the hotel were out of bounds for the party too. Waited over an hour the next day before breakfast arrived and felt like we were interrupting a private party. All in all not worth the £215 price point. Staff were rushed off their feet. Raised this directly with the hotel manager Megan and they obviously prioiritise income over any level of customer experience.

Almost Fabulous.

A lovely building with quirky touches and a safe ample car park. There is a local pub across the road. Breakfast was excellent’ plentiful and good quality. It’s 1 mile from The White Swan which is a Michelin star pub and the reason we stayed in Fence.

The room and the facility in general was cold on arrival on a cold rainy October afternoon which made it a little unwelcoming. Adjustable shower was broken so my wife had to struggle to keep her hair dry using the rain head shower. Towels were frayed and could do with replacing Nobody was about as we left The experience was a bit of a missed opportunity to dazzle because it really could have been fabulous.

Last minute booking and so glad we found it

Brilliant, ticks every box. We stay at some very nice places but this place is exceptional. There is a lady called Kirsty who works in the evening on the reception who really is a special person. So welcoming and genuinely lovely who isn’t scripted like most staff in places. We have already recommended it to people we know! We will return very soon.

Noisy awakening

Stayed lots of times and it’s always excellent in every way. Comfort, breakfast, staff.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, there was terrible noise at about midnight that woke us up then kept us awake for hours. It sounded like someone was doing work in one of the rooms.

Fantastic hotel with great food and incredible staff.

We stayed at the Fence Gate Lodge for two nights with breakfast, and ate twice at the hotel restaurant. The rooms were extremely clean, well presented, with great bathrooms. I could not fault the service from any of the team, from the reception, housekeeping, breakfast service, to pub and restaurant staff. They were all very responsive and polite, and great ambassadors for The Fence Gate. The breakfast was great value and really tasty (home made sausages! Superb black pudding). We ate in the evening at the restaurant. The service, again, was exceptional, and they were responsive to food requirements, clearly advising where there might be an issue. When the food arrived, it was excellent and extremely tasty. The choice of wines was great. We had a family gathering of 12 people on the Sunday, and yet again, service was top rate and so professional. They looked after us very well - we had elderly people with us (with a walker) and they were very sensitive to their requirements. Again, great food, and very professional service. I could not fault them in anyway. I loved the ambience at the hotel, and restaurant / pub; casual and quirky, and very well presented. The whole team were fantastic, in fact, although the rooms were great, the service excellent, the food superb (full marks to the catering staff), the staff were so good that it makes you want to stay there again.

Really nice, we had the suite room which had a living area / kitchen. It was worth every penny with a toddler. Everyone was so helpful, the room was really clean and quiet at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was good!

The sausages were poor (pretty tasteless and too processed in texture) but that's not the fault of the hotel but the suppliers. Otherwise, it was fine

We chose the wrong night to stay for the fist night as there was a noisy party until 11.00pm, but the staff warned us about it and were apologetic. The second night was excellent.

Very close to a busy road and traffic noise so had to close window even though it was a v hot night. No air conditioning nor fan provided and v thick quilts on the bed.

Easy parking. Beautiful rooms, comfortable and clean. Breakfast excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. First class restaurant just up the road.

Room was very warm. With windows open the noise from the road was very loud. Mirror on dressing table set too low but managed to put a book under and tilt it up.

It was very clean and tidy, was very welcoming on arrival, the reception was really nice, good amount of accessories in the room

All the staff was very nice apart from 1 who I believe to be the bar manager at the pub not too sure on the name but he had a mullet, his attitude and posture towards us wasn’t very appealing I don’t think I’ll be arriving to the pub again his attitude absolutely STUNK.

Well there were a few things which were really uncomfortable. First of all we were assigned to the room which has windows looking towards the road. I don’t know about the others but it was extremely noisy all the night. Secondly - when we were staying there was a wedding and we music played loud will midnight. We were not informed about this, when we asked lady on reception she said that hotel was trying to reach me but it couldn’t (which was not true since I always my phone with me). I can mention that breakfast was like, full English and nothing else. If you ordered salmon and eggs you got salmon and 2 eggs, like no even try to make it fancy or good looking.

Amazing bathroom!!

Lovely English breakfast with all the trimmings, excellent quality bacon & tomatoes. Good selection of fruit, cereals & yoghurt. Only moan is about the coffee machine which was very slow & didn’t seem to be working properly all the time.

I had a great time and the cost was just right.

The property was clean, well-maintained, and had a charming atmosphere. I especially appreciated the peaceful surroundings and excellent value for money.

The hotel is beautiful and staff are so helpful and friendly. The staff care about your service and that’s very clear to see. We loved the hotel vibe and the restaurant nearby was unbelievable food. They made us feel so comfortable on our first dog holiday and nothing was a fuss to accommodate to. My dogs actually loved her stay and loved her welcome dog treat, bed and considerations made prior to our arrival for my dogs comfort!!
