Istoric Center - Romanian Quiet Apartment

Situation géographique idéale. Très bonne communication avec Camelia. Appartement vaste et globalement bien équipé. Wifi très fonctionnel. La boîte à clés est très pratique pour l'arrivée et le départ en autonomie.

Il y avait une très forte odeur de moisissure dans la salle de bains, qui se diffusait dans l'appartement (signalée à Camelia). L'appartement donne sur un boulevard très passant et est très bruyant en été lorsque les fenêtres sont ouvertes.

The apartment and the amenities were well kept and beautiful.

No fault of the host but the bathroom had a slight odor. Easily something that you can look past.

The apartment is large and well equipped. I slept on the couch and my sister took the bedroom. Both were comfortable. The building itself is quiet in that you don’t hear neighbors and folks in the hallways are quiet when you pass. The elevator was helpful. Nice to have a washing machine. They let us drop off our bags while the cleaners were still working, which was very helpful.

While the building and neighbors are quiet, the street the windows faces is absolutely not. The street is so busy and you hear cars all night long. It was a challenge to sleep, and I can usually sleep through anything. I luckily brought my earplugs. I also tried to take a phone call on the balcony but I couldn’t hear due to the noise. I’d read the many other reviews about the sewage smell in the bathroom and thought it couldn’t be THAT bad if there are also good reviews. How much it matters probably varies person to person though, and the smell fluctuated in intensity throughout the 3 days. I’m sensitive to smells and my sister is not. She was able to get used to it and while it gross to her, it wasn’t disruptive for her. It kind of became a background smell. The smell was extremely disruptive for me. I’d read the owner’s replies to other guests commenting on the smell saying they should have reached out. I considered it but ultimately did not. The owner is only available until 9pm, which is a very reasonable boundary. But on the worst smell day, we got back after 9pm, so we couldn’t contact her for help. The smell made me gag and I slept with a kn95 mask on. The smell disrupted my sleep for some of the night and we had to leave the bathroom fan/light on to help air it out. It was slightly better in the morning. I did some research which indicated that the smell might be worse when the pipes dry out. So we made sure to run the shower and sink for like 30 seconds here and there and flush the toilet randomly and that seemed to help though never got rid of the smell entirely. We spent most of our time exploring Bucharest rather than in the apartment, and we were only there for 3 nights. It didn’t seem worth it to disrupt our short stay with a maintenance request for an ongoing, known problem that has not already been fixed/is probably a bigger plumbing issue. Especially since it was only disruptive for one of us.
