Fantastic beautiful hotel

The room was nice , it did smell a bit damp but as it was right next to the river that was probably why , the shower was broken but we reported that before we left , other than that it was a pleasant stay with a lovely breakfast

Sadly, there is no lift and for my wife to climb to the third floor was a challenge. We understand that the listed status of the building does not permit a lift. Could this be reviewed? Otherwise a lovely hotel.

I would have liked to see some fresh fruit salad at breakfast. Also more choice of breads. The bedroom was very comfortable and relaxing. We were fascinated by the old mill wheel in the bar. Beautiful view of the Meadows.

Lovely location however our room was absolutely tiny and had no hot water so couldn’t even shower in the morning. Complained and was told that management would be informed; still waiting for a call. Very poor

The room was very small, with no proper place for bags and the bathroom could use some upgrading. The staff at the bar and breakfast were excellent but unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the reception staff, especially the young girl with dark hair and glasses. The reception staff could learn about customer service from the bar staff. We were not made feel welcome and it felt like we were inconvenience both at check-in and check-out by the same person.

Lovely stay comfy and tasty breakfast

My room was adequate but quite sparse. It was clean and warm. I would have liked a bedside cabinet. There was nothing by the bedside. The view was lovely.

Our room was great, staff we're lovely and the setting excellent. A great stay we will be back.

As a single woman I hate it when a receptionist openly states my room number for anyone to hear. Then inadequate signage in a series of corridors, a broken step, missing carpet treads, an uncomfortable mattress, rock hard pillows and a very poor shower all convinced me I will never return to this hotel. A shame because its location, the mill wheel and views are superb.

Much improved since our visit about 2 years ago. Bar staff Friday supper helpful & friendly, v good. Breakfast Sunday, good service and good food.

It was a lovely hotel, felt nothing was too much troible, from the welcome on reception, to the dining room staff. Our room was ample size and had all you would expect, including extras like a coffee machine and biscuits. The views from the room were a bonus too

Staff very good. Try hard to be helpful. Had to move rooms after one night with no heating. Second room had broken toilet seat and tv not working properly. Room maintainance very poor. Hotel in nice location by fields and river.

Surprised that no connection to Reception from room - a long walk for a couple with arthritis and dementia. Also no room service- trying to take food back to our room would be extremely difficult.

The hotel is in a lovely location, surrounded by nature, shops, and restaurants, which makes it very convenient. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the receptionist even offered to help carry our luggage, which we really appreciated. That said, the hotel could benefit from some refurbishment. There is no lift, which makes it difficult when carrying luggage to higher floors. Our room, located on the second floor, was very warm despite the heating being off. We had to keep the windows open, and unfortunately, that meant a few spiders found their way inside. The bathroom was quite small and heated up quickly. I also found the tap a little stiff to use, and it broke while I was trying to open it. We had a family room with a sofa bed, but unfortunately, it wasn’t comfortable, the mattress was uneven, creaked loudly, and caused us two sleepless nights. When we asked about alternatives, we were told the only option was a zip bed, which didn’t sound like a significant improvement. Breakfast was good and had all the basics, but it would have been helpful if staff mentioned that different styles of eggs could be requested, we only found out afterwards, and the scrambled eggs didn’t appeal to us. Overall, this hotel is fine for a short stay, especially if you value the location and friendly service. For longer family stays, however, comfort may be an issue, particularly with the sofa bed.

Pet friendly

I was allocated a room in the annex. It would have been helpful to have had a map or better instructions on how to find the door /room or better still walk customers to the door! The room was cosy and basic but the shower room was not clean. The shower had residue on the tiles (I didn't use it!). The bed was hard as were the pillows. Bar staff were incredibly helpful and the food was incredible.

Easy parking

Hotel rooms very small. Tv couldn’t tune in. Shower was feeble to say the least. Needs updating

Dining room quiet but had to wait extended time for meal as seemingly more important guests being served elsewhere. Eventually given some complementary free bread but only at second time of complaining. Suggest better training in customer service required.

Beautiful location in Sudbury overlooking the water meadow and close to the town centre.

Did not like the very steep stairs to the third floor or the lack of double glazing in the bedroom and bathroom.

Hotel was lovely and food was excellent. Reception staff were lovely
