Great landlord - welcoming and super friendly. Superb range of real ales and an awesome full English breakfast. Room was comfortable, fairly spacious (we had the triple) and clean. Broom was a little compact and basic. Overall a good friendly pub with basic but good facilities.

The gentleman running the inn was warm and friendly, helpful too as I had direction troubles for an event and so he googled it and printed it and for the next day I got there. A very homely comfortable feeling I thought. If I'm ever back in the area I will stay there again.

We had a lovely stay. The hosts were welcoming and friendly - they clearly enjoy and take pride in their job. The room was clean, comfortable and well stocked with amenities (after a long day the hot chocolate was well needed!). Breakfast in the morning was excellent quality.

Check in was very easy, very friendly reception from Richard who showed us to our room. The room was very clean, well stocked with tea and coffee, milk and bottled water. Plenty of complementary toiletries. The ensuite was very tiny but clean. Bed was firm but comfortable. Location was great for Halstead's High Street. Unfortunately for us, a fellow guest was very unwell in the room next to ours and as the walls were paper thin, we didn't get a good night's sleep. Although this is not under the control of the hotel, I think maybe they need to look at some sound proofing between the rooms - our bed was just a stud wall away from next doors bathroom - not the best thing to experience on a night away! The overall look of the building needs a bit of attention. The pub's broken toilet windows are not very welcoming and make you wonder, on arrival, if youve made the right decision. I wouldnt stay again but if we'd have had other "neighbours" then maybe that opinion would be different.

I slept very well for the night. Very welcoming host who offered a double bed on my arrival. Room was very clean with an excellent selection of hot drinks and a kettle. The first place I have stayed that had soya milk in the room so I was able to have a nice cuppa in the morning. Thank you will stay again!

I found the Dog Inn to be in a great location when staying in Halstead. The pub landlord, Richard, gave me a warm and friendly welcome and showed me my room on arrival to ensure I was happy with the room and its facilities which I was. This was greatly appreciated. I had a comfortable two night stay and the breakfasts were both good too. Real ales available in the bar in the evening. Halstead has a thriving high street with a nice range of useful shops and restaurants. There is a pleasant public park and I enjoyed a good few hours in the large Antiques centre in a former Mill building. Many thanks Richard for an enjoyable stay

We had a well equipped en-suite room in this convenient location. Our only complaint is that the mattresses were a little firm. There was a nice bar area. Parking was very convenient. Perfect for a one night stay.

Ultra friendly and nice little inn. We were staying overnight for a wedding locally and this was an ideal location. Small but well-appointed room with some nice little touches (loads of tea, coffee and water) and a great friendly welcome from the landlord. We had a couple of drinks in the pub before the wedding and all the pub regulars were charming and welcoming. And the pint (s) of mild I had wete sublime. Would definitely use this Inn again if in the area.

The Inn was as you'd expect for an old building and was a nice and comfortable. Richard and his wife provided a warm friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout our stay. Breakfast was a decent choice and well presentedwith a bottomless tea and coffee pot.

The dog inn is a traditional pub the landlord and staff was fantastic and the breakfast was out of this world. I would stay when i am back in the area.

Very small room even if it were for one person. Certainly not suitable for a twin room. En-suite was also very small with the wash basin so small that you could hardly get a face flannel in it. The toilet area was too small and hardly any room to move. The staff were very pleasant and a good breakfast. Overall, not worth the money and would not stay there again.

I stayed here for one night with my wife. I booked it as a friend and his partner were going to stay here to. I didn’t check any reviews beforehand as I thought for £89 pounds it would of been ok. Probably one of the worse rooms I’ve ever stayed in. We actually enquired in the village fornother rooms to stay in but to no avail. The beds were worn, squeaky and the springs were pinging. The carpet must be 200 years old the shower and toliet is seriously graby. The room hasn’t been dusted in weeks. I could go on. I’d just stay away if I was you!
