Teo Guesthouse and Camping in Mestia

We based ourselves at Teo Guesthouse for 8 nights while exploring Svaneti, and Giorgi made it one of the best parts of the entire trip. He's warm, humble, and endlessly resourceful, whatever we needed sorted, he made a call and got it handled without any fuss. He wasn't the one renting us our camping gear, but he pointed us to the right person in town and made sure everything we needed for our Ushguli and Koruldi Lakes trip was arranged. The moment that stood out most: our 4x4 got stuck on one of the mountain tracks, and Giorgi personally organised for it to be recovered and brought back down to Mestia. When we tried to thank him with cash for the trouble, he flatly refused to take it. That kind of generosity, with no interest in anything in return, is rare and it made us feel like guests in the truest sense, not customers. The rooms were comfortable, the location was perfect for a home base, and having somewhere reliable to come back to in Mestia for over a week while we went off into the mountains made the whole Svaneti leg of the trip work. Can't recommend Teo Guesthouse, and Giorgi especially, highly enough.

Це чудовий недорогий гестхауз, який має , напевно, найкраще місце у Местії. Він знаходиться на самій цікавій історичній кам'яній вулиці , яка веде вгору, і звідки починається трекінг до хреста. Дехто пише, що важко йти вгору до нього, але це дійсно дрібниці, бо кожен крок приносить задоволення від того, що ти бачиш. І не так там вже і довго йти.. Так як Гестхауз останній, за ним вже поле і ліс , то вночі дуже тихо, немає шуму машин і кафе.. Власник геста Георгій має суворе сванське обличчя, але насправді найдобріша в світі людина. І його жінка Оля, завжди посміхається, турбується, щоб все було добре, але в той же час не заважає. Гестхауз має 5 кімнат для гостей на другому поверсі, кожна має окремий санвузол, і величезна загальна зала зі столом для спілкування . Також шикарний загальний балкон з видом на всю Местію. Гарно, що є приватність, також ніхто не нав'язує сніданки чи вечері з хачапурі, як у багатьох інших гестхаузах, є можливість скористатися кухнею, холодильником і приготувати самому. А якщо дуже треба, то можна без проблем замовити сніданок у сусідньому гестхаузі через дорогу . Також можна поставити палатку прямо на подвір'ї, це буде дешевше ніж кімната, але ціна за кімнату і так одна з найменших у Местії. Можна купити абсолютно чудове домашнє вино у Валерія. 100 метрів від будинку чудове недороге кафе , мабуть , одне з найкращих у місті.

The rooms were fine for the price we paid. They were clean and warm which was really nice since the weather was quite cold during our stay.

We felt very unwelcome and at times it felt nearly like we were intruders there. It was the most awkward experience we have ever had with any accomodation. There is an elderly couple, they would not even speak to us when we came just showed us to the rooms and left. They seemed totally unhappy that we were there as if they didn’t even expect us. We were so surprised by this reaction to our arrival that we double-checked if were at the right place. The description says there is a shared kitchen which we eventually found (again no one showed us or told us anything) and I have to say it was a bit shocking - it was quite dirty, smelled old and musty and there was a cat moving around the outside, house and kitchen freely. It felt very unhygienic. We decided to boil some eggs for our hike there and the elderly lady stood there with her arms crossed giving us a very funny look. We felt like we made her angry but did not understand why. It really felt like we were intruding on the old couple’s personal life by just being there. At the end of our stay our friend had a shot of Chacha at the guesthouse’s Wine bar which the man said is for free. She did not drunk it as there were hairs and the glass was dirty but was asked to pay by the lady in a quick sharp way when we were leaving which again made us feel very awkward - as if we were trying to leave without paying. Anyway we were glad to leave.
