This property is in a safe location, provides a tranquil setting and has very responsive hosts.

The sense of space, that comes from having the bedroom and bathroom separated from the kitchen and breakfast nook, is quite nice. The property was clean and neat on arrival, and the hosts are extremely responsive to any communication on their WhatsApp number. Overall it was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

It would have been nice if the window above the bed could open, to have a draft through the room. There were a lot of mosquitoes but the fan, combined with insect repellent, sorted most of that out.

A nice homely cottage

I liked the location and the cottage itself was very nice. Feels like a very safe area of Cape Town. A long kitchen/lounge and adjacent bedroom with en-suite bathroom and small private terrace outside is a good space for two people. The property has a nice homely feel. Staff/ hosts were always quick to respond to any queries and friendly and welcoming.

The kitchen-lounge is somewhat dark, it would be good if the blinds on the kitchen side could open. I was also a bit surprised to be charged R200 extra for the use of the sofa bed in the lounge for my 13 year old son. It was explained this is for bedding and cleaning thereof, and on looking at the listing I saw this mentioned in the policies. Whilst the hosts did mention this charge at check-in and it’s not a huge amount, I have never come across a subsequent charge to provide bedding for a booked guest, and think it would be better to include this cost at the point of booking if needed. Otherwise we were very happy with everything.

I never stayed at the property because Booking.com booked me in, confirmed it by email, I arrived at the property to be told that it was double booked! Booking.com took my money straight away and have NOT refunded me. So Booking.com or Schuilhoek Garden Terraces OWE ME MONEY AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE REFUNDED.

Improvements required

That it was a large space. The garden was pretty. Enough private space for socialising. Bedroom decorating was pretty. And the kitchen was bigger than expected. Lovely white dressing gowns was a bonus. Staff were friendly and professional. There's private parking.

Unfortunately, none of the above could make up for the damp, musty odour that was letting the place down. It was a strong smell of mould in every cuboard, and it could be clearly seen in the bathroom ceiling. The extra sofa /bed is not fit for purpose. We had to cut our stay short because the musty old smell was aggravating my asthma. Although we wanted to go, due to the condition of the property, we were asked to leave the night before to vacate at 10 am the next morning. Short notice! No where to go? I hope they sorted the problem and touched up some of the tired looking items in the unit.

Truly a Lil gem nestled in a quiet safe suburb,away from the hustle and bustle but a stones throw away from main roads and shopping centre's...the amenities so well thought of...back ups in place during loadshedding,gas stove for cooking,heated bed blankets and an amazing heater to warm up most of the unit...gated parking right outside your front door ,even though on same property as owner,complete privacy....a huge thank you to Tim and family,from check in to check out and over our 4 day stay

A hidden gem tucked away in Kenilworth. An idyllic paradise that caters and satisfies all your senses. From the private location, to the comfy bed and finer luxurious touches which made our stay extra comfortable. The kitchen area was amazing as it was separate from the bedroom area and provided us with everything we needed. The lush green surrounds and immaculate decor added to our stay. The host was inviting, kind and helpful. I would definitely return for another stay!

Private island vibes

We absolutely loved the beautiful garden and the stunning outdoor kitchen. We felt completely tucked away like we were on our own private island. The wifi still works even with loadshedding. The kitchen is also functional during loadshedding. The comfortable seating and stunning views. We had the most lovely time. The host was so kind and her son as well. Truly wonderful people. The beautiful room was tastefully decorated and furnished. Smart TV had everything you could ever want including Netflix etc.

Liz and Tim met us at the apartment way before checking in time , completely professional extremely well co ordinated speakers really have a flare for life and so jovial met us with truly warm smiles and answered everything we needed to know of basic importance getting in and around the apartments to the dos and don'ts and showed us the interior and exterior and explained thoroughly and clearly,Really incredible people and the cottage is a paradise away from home ,will definitely be coming back again and again thank you Liz and Tim you are both truly incredible gems and magnificent people.❤️
