The cave room was very well maintained and clean. We enjoyed our stay. Domenica was very responsive to all our questions prior to our arrival. She was very welcoming and gave us a lot of tips and recommendations on how to make the most of our short stay in magical Matera.

It’s a very nice cave hotel that is very conveniently located to explore the old Matera on foot. It is safe and quiet at night. There is also a very good restaurant right outside the door Dominica was absolutely wonderful. She came to meet me all the way at the airport, even though my flight was delayed and I didn’t arrive until the evening. She also gave me a detailed information on what to see in the town, the most important landmarks, where to go for nice views, where to go out to eat, etc. She essentially provided me with the whole itinerary for my 3 day stay on Matera, which was incredibly helpful. Throughout my stay, Domenica was very helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this unique hotel.

Matera is a must-see! I would go to south Italy just for this city. And when you’re in Matera, you HAVE to experience living in a cave. That’s why this city is the second oldest city in the world. And if you want to live in a cave, you want to live in Casale di Maria. Because Domenica works there. She is fantastic. Helped us find parking through WhatsApp on our way there, gave us a full itinerary for our sightseeing of the city, as well as recommendations to good places to eat.
