    In hindsight, I just would not stay in Hakone. I’m solo and it seems more like a place for a couple or friend group. Hakone (and this hotel) are far too expensive for what you get. But everyone wants to go here so it’s understandable. If you are wanting to spend a lot for a nice big hotel or Ryokan, go for that. As someone on a budget, I should have chosen Odawara, and made a day trip to Hakone. This hotel, above a pizza place (which I HIGHLY recommend for your day trip) has rooms that are larger, but if you get the room I had, it’s smaller than small. I’ve stayed in many hotels with tiny rooms, but this is the smallest. The bathroom sink is so tiny, like a little kitchen bowl, the water splashes out. The shower is so tiny that if you’re big or overweight, you may not fit inside. That said, the bed is big—queen sized, but the whole room, wall to wall, IS the bed. Also, the room is very modern and spotless. So, you might be ok here if you know all this going into it. Or just spend more get one of their bigger rooms. Location is 5 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto station. That’s nice. It was easy to take a bus to Tenzan Onsen. Also keep in mind 99% of Hakone SHUTS DOWN at 8pm. That’s also why I’d choose Odawara or a different place.

    Very small entrance and narrow stairs. No lift. Room painted dark grey, bed built off the floor took up full room width except small space at foot of bed. Entry by keying in a number supplied worked ok. Great location near station beside river and shops. Good for 1 night stop not for a holiday.
