About this house rental

Situated on the scenic Straloch estate up a pretty glen in Highland Perthshire, this luxurious contemporary house is the perfect place for a relaxing rural break. Watch red squirrels and the birds on the feeders from the comfort of the glass sitting room extension and take in the stunning views. And with 3,000 acres to explore, from the beautiful loch nearby and miles of rugged heather hills, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to walks. There's also kayaking on the loch, wild swimming, fishing and tennis so you need hardly go anywhere else during your stay. But if you feel like taking off on a day trip, Royal Deeside, Loch Ness and Saint Andrews are all within easy reach. Edinburgh is a 90 minute drive and the popular visitor hub of Pitlochry with its bustling shops, cafes and pubs and the famous fish ladder is just 15 minutes away.

This recently built architect designed house has a semi-open plan ground floor with generous living space. There is a sleek well-equipped kitchen with stone worktops, Neff appliances and seating around the island.

The dining/ sitting room has an extending dining table that can sit up to 10 comfortably, plus sofa and TV. The double height glass extension has more comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove. Huge windows slide open to the sunny deck to the front and the private patio with outdoor furniture to the rear.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms with comfortable Hypnos beds, feather duvets and crisp cotton bedlinen. The luxurious bathrooms have quality fittings, underfloor heating and organic soaps.

The garden is fully enclosed and has outdoor seating, a charcoal barbecue and kids' play frame.

We spent a week at Straloch in Stalker's Lodge with our three young children and I could not recommend it more highly for families or anyone! The website is beautiful but it does not “oversell” the Straloch Estate. From the Scottish postcard quality of the road on which it is located, to the walled garden and millennial garden, the Estate had even more beauty to it than I was expecting. Lucy and her family and team love the Estate and it shows - you will be staying at a much beloved and carefully tended family estate. The natural beauty is perfect and Straloch has ensured that you have every possible way to easily access it with your family. Children are provided with baskets for nature walks, a row boat and kayaks are provided to get out on the water, and we loved cooking marshmallows on the island! Lucy went out of her way to spend time with our family and to take our children on a “pond dipping” adventure to learn about little fish. They loved it and Lucy was sweet and knowledgeable, a consummate host. We thought the estate was perfectly located for day trips that provided a great “Scottish” experience as well. We especially loved Blair Castle and Scone Palace. I would not miss either!

If you're looking for a secluded spot on the edge of the Cairngorms, we would highly recommend this property at Straloch. Be prepared for the 9-mile (20 min) drive from Pitlochry, along a good single-track road and sometimes with sheep to navigate around... but it's worth it for the getaway - the setting is perfect. Everything is catered for, there's plenty to explore on foot around the property (including a boat and kayak's for the lake - life vests provided too). The house itself is large, comfortable, and cozy. We're looking forward to heading back there asap.

If you want a million dollar view of the Scottish Highlands, very quite, just a very soft bleating of sheep, the sounds of birds and nature, then this is for you. Far away from a noisy city. The house is on a very private road. Absolutely no traffic. I have stayed in private homes all over the world, including Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Hawaii and many others, and this is absolutely one of the top 3. Very highly recommend!!! 5 stars!! Would give 6 stars if I could.

We stayed as 5 adults and 2 spaniels for 4 nights in November. Lucy organised an early check in for us, which meant we could get there in the daylight and do some exploring!Stalkers Lodge is modern, very clean, spacious and warm. The boot room was a bonus due to the amount of outdoors stuff we had, plus the 2 dogs! The kitchen had everything we required. Both sitting rooms had comfy sofas and of course the wood burner in one, with a very large basket of logs included in your stay. You could also buy a wheelbarrow full of logs from the estate for a small reasonable charge. The beds were large and comfy and the showers were fantastic. We didn’t have time to use the games room, but it looked like a great space for kids, with plenty to do. The garden is completely enclosed (with chicken wire on the fences if you have dogs prone to escaping!!). You can walk about the estate fairly freely, as long as none of the livestock are disturbed. There’s a short walk down and around the loch where dogs can be off the lead & another short walk up the way into the millennium wood. There’s also longer walks, including a ridge walk behind the lodge - there are directions for all of these within the lodge. Lucy also arranged a late check out for us, which meant we weren’t rushing about like mad on the day we left - and didn’t want to leave! One thing we didn’t know about was that the kayaks are not available after October 31st as they are put away for the winter (I couldn’t see this written anywhere on the website). We will all happily kayak in winter and this was a little disappointing as we didn’t find this out until after we received the check in instructions. A fantastic relaxing break away, and would thoroughly recommend a holiday at Straloch Estate.
