About this house rental

Come enjoy the spectacular ocean and mountain vistas sitting on the sun deck or in the spacious, comfortable, living room after exploring the many beautiful beaches and trails near by. Our home was lovingly constructed by my husband John, who is a custom home builder and designer, using natural materials from our local area and a considerable amount of repurposed wood and brick.
We are fortunate to live in a quiet, spacious and serene place, surrounded by nine acres and beauty in the form of wildlife, trees, the Pacific Ocean, the Olympic mountains and an endless sky that lights up with countless stars on clear nights.
Cairn, where you will stay, is attached to our house but completely separate and private. We are available if needed but we give guests complete privacy. Guests have their own private entry, parking space and deck.
Off seasons rates in effect from October to March.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is amazing and had everything we were hoping for. Two good sized bedrooms upstairs with a smaller one downstairs. The main dining/living room area was a perfect size for us, was very comfortable and we loved having a fire going in the fireplace. The outdoor area is beautiful with a huge yard and a great view of the water and mountains.John and Janis were fantastic hosts. Quick to respond to any questions and the fresh muffins when we arrived was a very nice touch, and delicious! The check-in process was easy with detailed instructions.We would definitely recommend this place to others and we would stay here again!

We stayed with our two adult children and enjoyed the fact that the house has lots of windows from which we could view the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Good proximity to beaches and to Sooke. Everything was pretty much as described in the property description

We had a wonderful stay. Greeted by John the gracious owner and welcomed with some fresh muffins baked by Janice. We were looking for a quiet holiday in a beautiful location. The house is big and very comfortable and very well stocked. The views are amazing across the strait and the fields in front of the house. Close to Sooke and Victoria as well as the beaches and forests to the west. Highly recommended!

We stayed at this lovely home for a long weekend to celebrate my mom’s 70th Bday. The views were beautiful and the beds were comfortable. We had warm muffins waiting for us when we checked in. They were delicious! The hosts offered us some firewood to make a fire in the fireplace. Such a cozy October evening playing games with my family by the fireplace. Will definitely stay at this place again while touring Vancouver Island.

Great place in a peaceful setting. Very unique custom built house by the homeowner. The apartment is attached to the main house along one wall. It is spacious and open with a great view and it's own entry and patio with view. The home owners were kind and caring and even shared some fresh baked goods with us! We had a relaxing few days.

VRBO meets B&B for perfect balance of genuine hospitality and privacy. The home is beautiful, cozy, welcoming, unique, crafted with love by John and Janis. The living room felt larger than pictured. We picked and enjoyed blackberries and plums in the yard, went for a nice walk around the large property, enjoyed the fresh cheddar biscuits with our dinner. Fresh flowers throughout the home. The fireplace would be lovely in winter! We liked the location that enabled a day trip into Victoria but was centered in nature.

Great accommodations for four seniors. There are 19 stairs to the two bedrooms on the second floor full bath if that is an issue for anyone. The first floor Bedroom has no windows but the main living area can provide an alternate sleeping area. Be aware of the ferry schedule to access Vancouver Island as we had to make some changes because of other family matters and were not able to reserve the times that worked the best. However, the Host was accommodative so that we could still enjoy our stay at the property. We would stay there again.

Overall, we had a great stay. The location is very quiet, about 10 minutes outside of Sooke. The description was accurate and worked well for our group (2 adults and 2 kids). The hosts were very helpful and quickly responded to all of our questions.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Cairn at Otter Point—three women on a getaway weekend on a rainy and windy November weekend. When the power was out the morning of our stay, the owner phoned and offered us the chance to re-book and also had a contingency plan should we arrive with the power still out. But we took the chance and the power was back on when we arrived, to a warm and cozy house perfect for the three of us. It has the best fireplace we've ever seen, with a wonderful draw and lots of dry firewood. The place felt so homey, roomy, clean, and comfy. A bonus was the view out to Juan de Fuca Strait. There were lovely big chairs and a sofa, with blankets to wrap up in, and a great living area for socializing. Upstairs had roomy bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The kitchen was very well-equipped and served all our needs. When the owner Janis arrived with fresh-baked cookies, that was the icing on the cake! We highly recommend this great place.

This property is just as advertised. A beautiful oasis within a short drive from the city. The property and surrounding area are beautiful with so many beaches and hiking trails it would take you weeks to explore them all. The owners are so friendly and helpful. I stayed the weekend with my grandchildren and really enjoyed the space the house offers as well as how well stocked the house is. You really don't need to bring anything but yourself and your food. Highly recommend this for anyone needing a place for some peace and quiet to unwind!

We spent 4 amazing days at this cozy and unique house with a beautiful ocean view and huge fireplace. The hosts were very kind and made us feel like we’re their family yet they respected our privacy. We loved the fact that there’s ton to do in nearby neighbourhood-beach was in walkable distance, huge property to run around, geese, llamas, meadery, mini brewery… we did every day a bigger trip to the farther beaches and something else closer to the house in the afternoon. Perfect amount even for our youngest one without insane driving through Langford and sooke. The house has a heater that we were able to control so nobody was cold, all basic needs for cooking, apple tv& Netflix, fast running internet and few games and books. We’d stay easily for a few years …..

I stayed here for 2 nights and wish I could have stayed longer! This was my first mini getaway away since my son was born, so comfort and relaxation were paramount, and the Cairn delivered 100%. It was perfect! John and Janis were so lovely and I’d stay here again any time. 10/10, A+ and 5 stars.
