Nice location
My room as swapped from the suite I booked to an ordinary room, not happy.

Property was beautiful on the outside and had huge potential, good location for walks. Friendly staff.
The rooms were dated, mould on windows and an air freshener way past its peak and mouldy also. The shower was very built up with limescale. Breakfast was particularly poor. Mushrooms like bullets and bacon like a flip flop.

Property is nice in the communal areas and the bar and breakfast room are lovely. The Lady serving us breakfast was lovely !! and the breakfast well cooked using local produce x
Enjoyed the “Let it Glow” Christmas light show in the evening.
Unfortunately the bedroom looked a little tired and the bathroom was worn out !!! needs a bit of tlc.
Did think it would have been nice for hotel to organise a little reduction in price for “Let it glow” if you were staying at the hotel.
the staff at greeting could of been a little more welcoming !!!

Nice location, free parking, decent breakfast, friendly staff.
There was a wedding party on the night we stayed (we weren’t warned about this - wouldn’t have booked if we knew), so loud music and singing until 23:00 (we were up early the next morning so needed to sleep). Plumbing from the room above ran through our room so every time they used the toilet or shower, the noise was unbearably loud and woke us up in the night. TV remote didn’t work - we went down to reception to ask for new batteries and were told they’d bring them up to us, but they never came. Coffee at breakfast was cold. Couple of small things, I know, but they were exacerbated by the terrible night’s sleep, and for what we paid, it was just incredibly disappointing.

Beautiful restaurant and we were warned tasting menu only £95 so we ate in Norwich. Excellent breakfast.
Two pictures exactly the same in bedroom made it look as though they hadn't bothered.

Not so easy to locate at night as the sign boards are not illuminated. But once inside we met the very cheerful & helpful receptionist who made us feel at home. A classical property (Grade II), with steepish main stairs up to our room which was stunning - spacious, four-poster, great views over the front lawn, hide-away bathroom (but not bijou). Breakfast was good, with a great welcome and excellent service. There is a pleasant & comfortable residents’ sitting area – the ‘Whiskey Lounge’. Exploring Norwich without a car is easy – the nearest Park & Ride is 10 minutes away. The hotel’s main restaurant is being refurbished so we found a couple of good local places. But on the third night we thoroughly enjoyed an eight-course tasting menu at the restaurant named ‘Mark Poynton at Caistor Hall’ which is part of the hotel – a separate review of that on MP’s website.
Would we go back – yes; would we recommend to others – certainly.
It was all good

Location and the restaurant run by Mark Poynton
We had no sleep at all. Guests who were staying in the hotel (attending a function on the grounds)spent the whole night shouting drinking and swearing in the corridor outside our room. The staff were nowhere to be found. There appeared to be no-one in charge when we tried to complain the next day. Emailed the owner but had no reply. It was really disgraceful.

It was not as described. There was no kitchen and a lack of staff. The breakfast area was cold. The breakfast was poor quality. An overall poor experience.

Great location, lovely building, spacious bedroom. Breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly, service was great.
Room was cold. Main door of building left open and unlocked overnight with no apparent staff on site. Bar and restaurant closed on a Tuesday. 1 teabag in the room. No hot water re sink. Tiny "desk" to work at in room. Not worth the price.

The Hall is located in lovely countryside and is full of character. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well presented. The breakfast was to a very good standard with full English cereals and fresh Danish pastries on offer. We asked for a quiet room and it was exactly that.Bed was comfortable to a point in that it was king size but two singles joined together with an annoying canyon in the middle.
It was a quiet weekend for the hotel and being at one end of the hotel you had to run a lot of water to get the hot water to temperature. The duvet could have been a better fit size .Finally pillows could do with a bit of an update as they were a bit on the lumpy side.

Caistor hall is such a lovely, rustic building, set back on a gorgeous piece of land. We only spent the night here as a stop off but it was a genuinely beautiful property.

Nice building
Bathroom was cold as there was no radiator in the bathroom. Radiator in the room was not working, a portable radiator was provided. Glasses for drinking water in the bathroom had not been changed from previous guests.

The food choice at breakfast was good
The room and en-suite were in poor condition and didn’t reflect good value for money. Decor and Furniture was shabby and well worn. the en-suite was tiny, minute sink, shower tray was like a trampoline, the shower was not thermostatically controlled, not water took ages to get through to basin tap & shower and the light above mirror was not working. Generally all very outdated and below par for the price charged.

A lovely hotel with lovely gardens.Stayed here previously and really enjoyed our stay
The view from our bedroom( room 4 ) window was straight onto roofing..not a great view but understand that the position of the room didnt allow for any other view! The non slip mat within the bath had a black mark which I presume was mould.
We had come to Norfolk to visit my 91 year old mother in law, we asked on Wednesday evening whether the hotel served scones and cream. We were told the chef would specially bake us fresh scones for Thursday morning. The scones were served and they were OK but nothing to rave about. We ordered tea and scones for 3 people. They were huge scones and we couldnt finish them so we took what we didnt eat home. By 5pm these scones were as hard as rock! As someone who bakes regularly, it was obvious the scones were not freshly baked! In my opinion they were scones that had been taken out of a freezer and warmed! I found this very disappointing and felt that because we had been told the scones would be freshly baked, we had been mislead.

Check in staff were very friendly and made check in very swift and easy.
Standard double room was spacious and reasonably comfortable.
Overall not a bad stay.........but
Its an old hall thats been running for many many years, so its tired but thats to be expected.
However, the bathroom was small and not all that clean with chipped tiles, shower mixerunit half hanging off the shower wall, very old shower heads with plenty of limescale, old tissues and a wash mit in the basin cupboard so it clearly doesn't get cleaned all that much.
Paid £252 for a weekends stay, which judging by the pictures should have been okay but don't be fooled, it's an old hall and is in need of tlc!
Breakfast was nothing special, limited menu, very sparse 'buffet style' bar (that was incredibly small) stale pastries on the 1st morning and hard eggs when they should have been runny.
2nd morning was better though. They seemed to only have 1 staff member for breakfast. You do get far better at a Premier Inn and Norwich has several of those (I used to live there so i know they are decent)
No evening menu but they do offer a limited 'brought in' chef menu for £70per person, but we didn't have that as we were in Norwich there were plenty of places to go and eat from.
Overall, nice to give it a try but don't go expecting too much!

Lovely setting . Very quite . We where in the hayloft suite and very peaceful
I do think it's needs a good touch up with paint . I must admit the view from the hayloft suite was little disappointing. Looked like a left garden area and windows down to the right looked very rotten . Paying £230 a night i did think the view would of been better to be fair . Upstairs Hall and hall carpet could do with attention . Lovely place just think it could do with being touched up as bar etc is immaculate and then upstairs let's it down .

The location of the property was good for our requirements.
Disappointing experience — not what you’d expect from a suite stay
Right from the start, the service was underwhelming. I had been asked to make an upfront payment, which later turned out to be linked to fraudulent activity. When I raised this with the hotel, the receptionist claimed it had nothing to do with them and blamed Booking.com — without so much as an apology.
I also attempted to contact the hotel several times before our stay, leaving voicemails to ask about the possibility of an early check-in. None of my calls were returned.
Breakfast service was equally poor. The lady serving us was quite rude — she moved us from our original table for no clear reason, and then shortly after asked us to leave because they were setting up for lunch, despite plenty of other tables still being available.
To top it off, our suite had dead spiders on the window, which was not only unpleasant but also completely unacceptable for the standard of room we had booked. When you pay for a suite, you expect a much higher level of cleanliness and service — sadly, this stay fell far short.

This hotel has so much potential, wonderful old house in a quiet village but still only 15 minutes from the middle of Norwich. Mark Poynton’s restaurant is superb, easy to see why he has won a Michelin star.
Much of the hotel and grounds feel tired and like they are waiting for renovations to start. The small bathroom we had was poorly designed with no heated towel rail, small sink and very cheap shower tray that flexed as you stood on it.

The decor looked fabulous
When I arrived I was told they had no rooms left even though I had the booking confirmed
5.0 / 10.0
The parking is free and the grounds are nice. The food was good. The staff were very nice.
The rooms are dated. The bathroom was not great with bath being very unappealing. The bed was very uncomfortable and I woke up with back pain. The stairs and dining area floors were very dirty. The music in the bar being played continued offensive language. Staff should vet song choices more closely.

Breakfast was fine, but there was some shortage of cereals.
Only one chair - in a double room! The bathroom - especially the toilet - was not clean when we arrived.

The setting is beautiful
The beds and pillows were really uncomfortable. We had to wait a long time for our dinner and breakfast. We were told there had been a lot of walk ins for dinner which delayed our meal. Residents should come first, which is good customer service.
4.0 / 10.0
Friendly & helpful staff. Ease of parking.
Room facilities - TV not fully functional despite adjustment by staff, wash basin plug not fitting correctly, door of cupboard not closing, no shelf for shower items. Outlook from bedroom window on to broken & missing roof tiles, room not cleaned particularly well, dog odours in several parts of hotel, disappointing evening meal & poor breakfasts. Drink prices are not competitive & £15 for an Aperol Spritz is ridiculous.

Good food but very expensive and no variety of fresh fruit or pastries at breakfast.
